1. They are about 2x as fast as a raft.
2. Has 1 slot for a stack of gasoline, each gasoline counts for "100%" fuel, so you won't consume a gasoline upon turning on, as its all added and cycled through a tank. Though worth mentioning, the Motorboat being on will slowly cosume fuel, so turn it off when not in use.
3. Can take several more hits from a whale. 2 hits will bring a normal raft down to 2/3 hull, where on a motorboat, 1 hit from a whale take away about a sliver of hull. However, I must stress that it can NOT outrun an Alpha Whale in open water, so the means to head back to shallow water will be needed for the Alpha.
4. They can take more of a beating from Players.
5. Most importantly: it can reverse!
To answer your question foundation question, if you are on (heck, even if not, just cause it looks better), use the fence foundation and pillar trick to cover the motorboat from the bottom with a foundation. Its wiser to protect it anyway, even though a Whale will always slam it, so it only helps against players. Mainly they have to break through the foundation protecting it, then actually damage the boat.
I have four mounted underneath the boat, and 4 mounted topside at each corner.
It can outrun the whale.
Splendid! This was exactly what I was looking for; thank you very much for taking the time to create such a useful and formatted post. Given what I'm investing, it'll go a long way.
