Ignore everything, gather dodos, level attack.
Become the birdman, watch a swarm of dodos end life as we know it.
With enough Dodos, you can surpass god, and become the true master of the Island.
Triple it, make the dodo legion, Ave Dodo.
On a serious note: If you play S.E., Rush thatch, don't build wood, don't build stone (except for a perimiter wall.) It'll cook you alive. Rifles are great, but the simple handgun can carry you for a while. To make enough charcoal to feed your gunpowder addiction that you will develop at this point, make ten to twenty campfires, put them a little ways away from your base, stock them full of wood, light it up, and go do something else while you wait on two thousand or so charcoal.
The Canyon has a good amount of metal, build on the cliffs near one of the water pools.
Extra thing I just remembered:
Build five or so beds at your main base, no need to worry about cooldowns for respawning.
Also keep around two copies or so of your current equipment if you can afford it, and keep it at base. Quite a bit of help when you go out looking for crystal or metal, and run into a carno. It's not as big of a loss then.
