Black paint sucks.
I know this has probably been done to death. And I have looked up as much as I could before posting. But I'm wondering if anyone has any more info, or can clearify more on what I already know.

So here is what I know. Black seems to work fine in most cases if you are for example selecting your black dye, and applying it to a region on something. (armor, walls, saddles, etc.)

When you are trying to paint a dino however, it barely shows up. It just creates a sort of translucent layer, giving your dino a darker hue.

HOWEVER, if you go to some of the websites where other people have made templates which you can download and apply to your dinos, lots of those people seem to use black with no problems. I have read some posts and help sections on those sites, and they say that "black" in ark is technically not black at all, it is a dark charcoal grey (#1c1c1c). They say if you use the proper hex code when you make your dino skins, it should come out working properly.

So I went in Photoshop, pulled up my dino skins, and re-colored all my black ones using the #1c1c1c hex code. I saved them properly, and went back in game. I re-painted my dinos. They look exactly the same. The black still does not work.

So... what am I missing? How does this work for some people, specifically the people who make skins for those websites, but it does not work for me?

It is very crappy and makes me sad. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but in a recent digest they mentioned they will fix the black colouring on dinos, so REJOICE

Several of the old colours don't show up right. White on metal does not do anything from what I remember. I know on metal window frames the paint ends up being faded looking.

Last time I tried white on flak armor, it gave it a barely noticable sort of silver tint.

Can't be soon enough. Painting dinos is one of my favorite things to do. And it makes it very difficult when not just black, but most any dark colors, just don't work at all. I have a folder of hundreds of skins that I worked hard on making just right, and I would say about 60-70% either don't work, or comer out looking bad due to major parts of the paints not showing properly.

I think they mean you have to use #000000 where ARK's dye has painted #1c1c1c, actually? Because if you're repainting the black with #1c1c1c, you'd be using the color it already is?

No they were saying that while actual black is #000000, that will not work because it is not in Ark's color pallet, and you have to use #1c1c1c, because that is the actual color in-game black dye. But either way, I have tried with both. Neither of them work.
