Add to that the fact that you have a tether distance, this tether distance will pull the other players to the host when trying to go outside it, or when changing zones. You can make this distance rather large, i have no idea if the old bugs associated with that are still around, but technically speaking you can have a lot of freedom, until the host changes a zone and you all suddenly together.
Basically its very restirctive, as its not intended for gameplay like building seperate bases large distances away from each other.
I'm actually not familiar with the old SP bugs as I played exclusively on servers. Is there a long list? D:
Good to know, luckily it's just 2 of us so we dont plan on straying far so I don't see tether being an issue yet.
Both of those issues also tend to happen at random, so running it with a normal re-spawn rate of 1.0 is virtually impossible. I believe even re-fertilizer wont work at that point, i have also noticed that if you build in a location and it was slightly to close to something (inside the no-spawn radius), removing said build might cause the same problem.
Ow an i almost forgot, the rockdrakes, both in aberration and extinction tend to .... how to put this, act like one of those small dog running after its tail. Going in circles quite often, mostly when they tend to climb walls or move over obstacles.
Things i have heard about, are certain artifacts not re-spawning in caves 1 specific one on the island seems to have gone missing for a few years now. You also need to "load" cave spawns, if you enter a cave for the first time, you have to wait like 15-30min before it spawns any creatures.
That's what i can remember from the top of my head, i have swapped back to SP recently to see how many are still there, and i have to say its a hassle compared to servers sadly. Though most can be solved by simply lowering the re-spawn to a silly low number, and as you go in and out of render things will re-spawn.
That all sounds pretty on brand for Ark lol. Damn, I guess I'll give it a shot for a little while. Good tip about turning up the resources, will do. Thanks!
Certain cave spawns are broken on SP. Either they never spawn so you get an empty cave run, they spawn too few enemies so it seems too easy or they overspawn dramatically. The Center specifically spawns billions of cave critters until they push through the ground and carpet the landscape in crawling chitin. That's why I initially started to host my own dedicated servers. Couldn't even fly over the middle island without single digit fps all because there were so many creatures.
For non-dedicated the tether on The Center and Aberration is particularly bad. You can't walk two steps away from your host on The Center in some places, or even dip a toe in the ocean. I actually died of thirst on the beach because I couldn't get close enough to the water to get a drink without teleporting back a few steps.
Aberration has large zones, you can't cross from Green to Portal without your buddy teleporting to you for example, unlike on The Island where it's basically just entering caves you need to worry about.
There's still an error in the XP table for SP as far as I know, so you can't level past 117 until you get Rockwell ascension and can go above 120 so the XP table is back on track and you instantly get your four previous levels.
So.... glad I'm playing Ragnarok? :L Hot damn, maybe I will be setting up a server. Or at least seriously considering it.
Other bugs worth mentioning - change your tether distance past 10k and your going to see a swim speed bug on certain dinos where if they touch water they shot across the map and die way off in the air.
-tethering doesnt always honor your settings sometimes you get yanked back even if not far away if you are on a flier you can lose your flier or get killed by falling
-if you go into a sub zone like on valguero ab zone anyone your playing with gets yanked into the zone to.
-various smaller annoyances like respawn bugs and glitches on boats like dinos going way above the boat or to the sides.
OP if you can host a game on your pc just download ark server manager it will save you a hell of a headache . Wildcard doesnt fix anything that isnt related to their new DLC with old bugs -desyncs - network code issues galore still around since 2015.
Its a great game made at one point by a great company but those days are long gone.
Ah so it is still there .... i mean it wasn't meant to got that high anyways, but still bit silly its still a thing.
I have a pretty beefy computer, is hosting a server seriously less stress than non-dedicated? That's insane lol. If I can run it and play at the same time that would be great. I just know my friends had a rough time figuring out how to keep the server running a while back and I dont know if I want the headache, unless it's more intuitive now than it was in 2015.
Disappointing to hear they haven't improved... I saw the reviews went back up to Very Positive but I guess it's just because they haven't offended anyone in a while lol.
I run a server and play on the same machine without issue. I actually do this because I'd had enough of the single player bugs, and I wanted things to keep happening while I wasn't playing (crops/spoilage/timers).
Not sure what the issue would have been before with keeping a server running. Once it's up it's up until you stop it or shut down the machine -usually-. Generally speaking you'll need a static IP or to inform the people you play with every time yours changes.
If single player, non-dedicated was the only option, I wouldn't still be playing Ark.
Not playable, and that was the case for all of us, so everyone tried to host but ONLY the host had the problem.
