War Stego
I like the Stegosaurus a lot, but it isn't as strong as a Rex or so, but I was wondering, would it be feasible to build one specifically for combat, or at least to be able to survive an encounter with a Rex?

What I'm looking for is mostly single player, so no player wars and stuff.

If so, what level should I look for and what build should I follow?

also better saddle the saddle is the dinos armor the plain vanilla saddle isnt ment for much so be on the lookout for a better blue print. if your having problems with finding bps try fishing.

Since I'm not specifically looking to war with other players, but make it a trusty mount that can even take on a Rex, could perhaps I also invest some in speed as well as stamina? Or is he truly too weak to waste levels in anything other than damage and HP?

a 150 kibble tamed stego takes 128 sarco kibble and 2hour 33 minutes
would give + 72 bonus levels, turning out at lvl 222
can level up 63 times so final level is 285

base damage of 41 damage for each 100% in meelee damage

a lvl 285 (fully leveled) should easy have 500% meelee damage, that is 200+ damage, or about the same as a rex with 300-350% meelee damage
few rexes in the wild have this

so ye, depending on what saddle you have, and what health the stego have

the chance of turning a stego in a war stego is pretty big, but takes time

I think I'd never even find such a high level Stego around in the wildnerness.

If you have the time, patience, and kibble, you can breed some very good stegos.

Can you "breed" them at lvl 150?!

yes, you can get higher levels at what you tamed them at too, say if you got 2 stegos at level 7 perfect tamed, a baby stego could be level 10, which is higher level than both parents, which is possible with stegos at 150, imprinting the stegos increases damage and damage resistance, and getting a mutation in damage or health could potentially give you the war stego you want.

As stated above, a Single-Player go-to Stego mount would require breeding to get high base stats, but also to allow you to invest more into speed.

Even if you can take on Rexes, you will suffer from the Stego's slow travel speed combined with their average stamina making long-range travel less than optimal.

You will also want to invest in veggie cakes readily on hand in order to keep its health up after prolonged ventures (and thus potential battles; a lot of wild critters fight Stegos after all).

I just gotta say this is the best post I've seen in ages. Finally someone asking a question about improving their game experience without whining about how the game is broken or how Wildcard is intentionally screwing things up (none of which I believe btw).

I'm also a stego fan. Drives my wife nuts as I'm always looking for a high stego.I always find their speed lets them down. I always put a few points into speed and stamina. I know in terms of dinosaur 'utility/power' they are not going to come close to other dinos. Don't care. I love em.

I went out at one point to get an argy (first argy of that gaming session) and came back with 3 stegos - none of which we actually needed.

you can kill wild rexes with almost any rideable dinosaur, just make sure its not a lvl 5 tame.

The stego was always one of my favorites as a kid. And yeah they can definitely hold their own against a Rex when you level them right.
