Megalodon is amazing for hunting Eurypterid's (lobster looking things). Eurypterids have high torpor attack so hunting them unmounted is a terrible idea. Megalos have the highest collection rate I know of for gathering Black Pearls from Eurypterid. The black pearls are great for broth of enlightenment which gives you a potion for a great xp boost (it's also used to tame arthopleura/centipede).

In addition the black pearl are supposed to play a big role in the upcoming Tek Tier, so get a good megalo now and level him up. Even though fishing makes getting black pearls easier, I still prefer a good old fashioned hunt.

Bad point is the turning radius is large, also they are not that fast compared to the ichthyosaurus or manta. Having a Megalodon vs Megalodon fight is almost like slow motion when you keep turning for the bite. However I still like them and they provide a reasonably cost effective mount in terms of time to tame etc.

Mega is a good mid-game water dino, it´s easy to tame and a leveled mega can take on 1 or 2 plesios. But the moment you get your hands on a plesio or even a mosa you´ll never use your mega again.
