You really need to work on reducing the size of the game. 188 GB for the initial download from scratch? Ridiculous. Wanted to check out the homestead update and see if that would bring me back into an otherwise disappointing expansion with Extinction. Not sure I'll ever buy another Wild Card game until they learn from their mistakes. So far, they haven't.

Yeah a bit of that ended up being mods the kids had installed during my last installation. Plenty of games out there have reduced their total install size. I'm a lucky one too I have a 200MB line to download.

my game is 108GB, and i have a lot of mods too. something must be wrong on your setup. maybe you installed extra maps? those can weigh a little...

Eh not sure. I have it, season pass, took out all mods, still 188gb required but a 35gb dl. So we'll see once it's installed all the way. I have plenty of friends who shy away from joining into ark because of the DL Size........it's ludicrous and could be made better if they took the time to do so.

total 182GB

It adds up. its a big game. Although your size will be quite a bit smaller if you don't have the DLCs.

35GB however is not a big download nowadays for a game. Many games have twice that. If this game actually had you download 150+ GB of uncompacted files I would not purchase however. That to large.

I have heard this folder is there to speed up loading of stuff, it's generated on first start of world that's why download of game is small

You really need to uninstall maps, if you're concerned about size. I just have Ragnarok installed and my folder is 60GB.

did you ever start the game since you installed it?
or just downloaded and then checked the folder without running game?

Of course.
The problem lies in the 'SeekFreeContent' folder, where the game seems to generate files and files, presumably map chunks and other things, so as to speed gameplay. It ends up doubling the size of the game, but it's only useful if you're using HDD. SSD users can block it through antivirus or other means and won't note the difference in performance, while freeing quite some space.
