The redwoods are just to the south and the coastline for them is rocky and sloped, makes the redwoods seem much more natural, There is a bay just south of the lighthouse that the grotto is under, and the redwoods side of the bay is perfect for an early/mid game base. Redwoods is a dangerous place if you aren't experienced in the game though. Wood, rock, and bushes are very plentiful, and scattered metal nodes all around, so if you can handle the danger, its very nice and pretty along the coastline, with some waterfalls scattered through it. If you felt industrious there are some large, wide, low rocks in the bay not too far from shore that you could build a bridge to from the beach and build a cool base on.
Screenshots of the bay, the grotto entrance, and inside of the grotto where you can see the rock columns you can attach tree platforms to:

Yeah, that is why I only play SP. I get to choose all the best base spots and nobody else is ruining good resource spawns.
On the redwoods base, if you like treehouses and redwoods, its a pretty ideal setup. the inland borders of the redwood biome where it connects to other biomes has awesome resources for late game. Just gotta keep an eye out for pouncing dinos that dismount you. Most of the trees in this redwoods are harvestable and not treehouse-capable. I like it as there isnt an insane number of Thylacoleos waiting on tree trunks to pounce.(compared to The Island, for instance)
This is just the prettier of the sea-base options that I found on the map. If you can let go of the coastline and sea dinos, there are tons of other cool pretty spots. I cant though, I love my sea dinos. :)
As a secondary choice for a sea base that is more functional as a single base without ever needing a second location, Just east of the blue Obelisk are a couple of little deep streams that merge together into a cool cave that has both a water and a land entrance. The cave is a bit large for a SP base, has a winding rock shelf/ramp that winds up to the land exit, and has a waterfall falling through a large ceiling opening that works great for flyer entrance/exit. you can put down foundations and ceilings along the rock ramps and bridges inside to expand the usable space near the top near the land entrance. The bottom portion is big with lots of flat space to build on near the water part. The streams are large enough to easily allow megaladons, dolphins, and basilosaurus through to get to the base. I didnt test it with bigger sea dinos like mosa and tuso. good metal and crystal deposits nearby on land, and tons of nearby resources in water. Looks like the grotto at the bottom of the cave leads much deeper, like into an underwater artifact cave, though i didnt explore it to see.
(personally i havent played a full game on ragnarok, i just have explored it a lot to look for good spots for bases for when i do)
EDIT: Dragazhar gives screenshots below of the area outside the cave and the flyer / waterfall entrance.

I just turned left facing the bridge. You can see it in the distance.

You can see the waterfall just at the wyvern's head just ahead of us.

Last one. I flew closer to the waterfall as you can see and I am looking down.
Anyway, my favorite place, but with no water access, is that little lake surrounded by forest near the wyvern breach, with view on the whole valley towards the huge claw, there even is a waterfall, it's so beautiful there 😉, top of the cliffs from down the valley
