Does the griffin appear on The Island?

I host a game (The Island) for myself and a friend, and the other day he got a griffin. He told me how he found it near one of the northern mountains. He tamed it, but it got killed right away and he was so disappointed he decided to just spawn one in to replace it.

Here I am days later deciding I want to go hunting for a griffin, so I look up where it spawns on the map but am finding out it apparently only appears on Ragnarok, not The Island. I refuse to believe my friend lied to me about finding the griffin, but could there be any other explanation?

Never seen a griffin, 844 hours played and the only map i have never played is rag. So you might be onto something sherlock.

But yes checking wiki, its rag only when it comes to spawning in the wild.

Nah, we've already tamed Argents. Also, in the tribe log it said he tamed a griffin, then it was killed, then he tamed a griffin again (the one he said he spawned in).

The griffin is ragnarock exclusive unless you have a mod running that adds them.

The only two mods that could even possibly cause this would be Simple Spawners or Rare Sightings.

For Simple Spawners, it works by setting spawner objects and telling them to spawn certain creatures. I didn't set anything to spawn a griffin.

For Rare Sightings, I thought this might have created a griffin, but based on what I read it only takes existing creatures and *upgrades* them to a rare sighting and doesn't actually spawn in anything new.

Griffins don't spawn on the island. Unless you run some other mods, which then would tell you where they would spawn. I'm pretty sure your friend just spawn tamed one in

True, but it would depend on the level. And since cross dinosaurs are so rare from RS, its very unlikely. Also depends on OPs mods

Yea thats true. more than likely it was spawned in by the other person but there is still that slim chance that it was a RS or some other mod or setting we dont know about

1. If your friend has admin priv's he could've spawned one on the island to tame.

2. If you have download enabled to the server, he easily could've tamed on another server and brought to yours.

We all have admin privileges on the server so we're free to do whatever we like. In fact, he said that he found a griffin, tamed it, but it was quickly killed by other animals, so out of frustration he looked up how to spawn one in and did that to replace it.

I don't remember what my Rare Sightings settings were at the time, but that's gotta be the only reasonable explanation. It's just that... you guys don't know my friend. It's completely out of character for him to make up some false story about how he got the griffin, especially when there isn't any reason to as I openly allow nearly anything in our game.

I'd still check the level of the griffin he "found". If lvl 150 is wild max, if it was 150-180 then it could have been rare. Anything else and it was cheated in. Nothing against him, but would u want to play with someone who cheats in the game, and lies about it?
