Experienced ark player, but an extinction noob
So I’ve starting playing single player extinction today and I got to the metal armor/tools part of the game. It’s been really fun so far but I can’t seem to know what to do next. Any ideas on how to progress through the game?

Enforcers are a decent early game mount. You can craft up to apprentice quality (Enforcers drop BPs when killed) on city terminals that are scattered throughout the map. They are very speedy and do bonus damage to corrupted dinos.

Velons are also good tames, even though they're nerfed badly now. They're Carno tier at best as their ranged attack still does intense damage. They're basically turrets lol. You can find Velons anywhere on Scorched Earth biome (southeast of Extinction map).

Gachas are pretty important tames as well. You can find them in the big hole called Sunken Temple. They have an unique system where each Gachas have a production wheel where they can poop out crystals that contains resources. The resources can be Metal, Obsidians, Sap, and much more....they might even drop a weapon or armor too!

Once you get to rex-ish tier, you can do OSDs, which replaces pylons. You can see them from a distance by seeing the smoke. It'll be too much detail for me to explain OSDs, but make sure you only do blue as a starting point. Once you finish blue, you'll get Cryopods and some other loots. Cryopods are amazing as they function like a pokeball, which is extremely useful for transporting or storing dinos.

You forgot to mention the 30 day decay timer on them.

You can do blue OSD well before Rex, they are stupid easy.

Is the timer on the pods really worth mentioning? They are playing SP, it will take *months* before they die. When they unlock the cryo fridge, Im sure they can figure out what its for :)

Super great responses! Thank you so much!

Dino Storage 2 > Cryopods ;-)

I agree that Dino Storage 2 is better, but I'm only focusing on Extinction features. Cryopod are more balanced than storage in some ways, but for PvE (especially single player), dino storage is definitely way better.

I don’t think you’ve considered the ini. You can do soul sickness, as well as prevent trapping based on status, last hurt time, last tamed time, and more. The defaults are more geared for PvE yes, but it could totally be more dialed in for a better balance than cryo pods even in PvP.

Ah well, to each their own =)

I didn't realize there's an ini to tweak those functions lol. Learning and managing inis are always a pain for single players though.

Yeah that’s why the defaults are more geared to PvE and single player for easy plug and play. I figured PvPers would be more inclined and more familiar with modifying the ini options for in-depth balancing =)

There’s really a good portion of ini I include. One of my favorites is dynamically applied weight based on the dino.

I mean, I’ve been playing ark for years so I know about .ini’s if you guys have any suggestions. Also, if you guys want to hop on a server together just HMU

So, I followed Panda’s advice and I found a ramshackle enforcer. Those guys are beasts. I was afraid of the wasteland before now lol. They are crazy. I definitely recommend building an enforcer.
