Is it possible to spawn a dino at a random location?
Rather than spawn a dino right in front of me, is it possible to spawn something at a random location? I doubt there is, but I thought I'd ask.

Essentially no spawn in the game is at a "random location". Spawn nodes are coded into the map and dinos withing the table of possible dinos for that specific node then spawn around that node.

Using admin commands you can alter the distance at which your admin style spawning in of a dino is but not a specific random location. You would probably have to delve into the dev kit, and make mod for that purpose perhaps.

This might interest you . http://www.survive-ark.com/ark-admin-advanced-dino-summoning/ . so if you play with the offsets you can spawn creatures in different places

Hahahahaha!! xD

I guess OP could try looking up to a random point in the sky and setting a huge number for the distance modifier. "500 0 0 150" will spawn a lvl150 dino right in front of you - try it at "20000 0 0 150" and let the dino paradrop in like a badman. Alter the first number up or down as necessary. It should end up in a fairly indistinct location and require a little searching to find.

Not sure if that was meant to be joke or not, but it's actually not a bad idea! I suppose I can play around with it a bit to see what I can do.

So just to explain my situation, I host a game that I mostly play solo but sometimes my friend joins. Anyway, I've never been able to find a Giga and it's starting to get a bit disheartening. I played with the dino counts and spawn values in the INI file a bit but still no luck. I know I can spawn it in but I don't want one to just appear right in front of me. Even if I forcefully spawn one in I want to have to go hunt it down. The only difference would be that at least I *know* it's out there somewhere.

...actually, on that note... I was reading a discussion about the Giga spawns and someone asked the OP if they've checked to see how many had actually spawned. So there's a way to check how many of a certain NPC exist in the game world at any given moment? That would be useful info for me.

Okay, did some testing. Learned a few things.

First, spawning a dino in the sky doesn't really affect its position on the map because it falls straight downward. Also, it doesn't even fall unless I'm within a certain range. All dinos outside of a certain radius of the player are considered 'hibernated' for memory purposes so they're basically frozen until I get close. This apparently includes their gravity. I spawned a giga really far away from me then headed out that direction. When I got within a certain range, it suddenly appeared in the sky and dropped.

I also discovered the "getallstate" command, which shows me how many of a particular dino are nearby. I say nearby because it doesn't count any dinos outside of that activation range I mentioned already. Unfortunately, this doesn't really help.

Oh well. Maybe I'll just go back to fiddling with the spawn settings.

The simple spawner mod makes it easy to setup custom spawns in game.

Also, the rare sightings mod can add some random fun stuff. If you want to add it to an existing server, i suggest lowering the rare sightings levels to match your max level.

Cool I'll check those out. Thanks.
