"NOT ENOUGH FREE DISK SPACE" error/bug updating ARK
I recently came back to playing ARK as my brother now owns the game as well, i left it alone for a few months prior to that. So now as i expected there is an update for the game (14.9gb) .

However when i downloaded it i found withing a few seconds steam claiming that i do not have enough free disk space to download the update. Naturally i checked my Drivers in order to see how much space i have and how much i needed.

Well guess what i had plenty .

I have a 1tb drive on which i store my steam games. And i have 327gb free space remaining. However it claims i do not have enough to be able to download the games update.

Can anyone explain to me why ? Or how i can fix this ?

Ark downloads are compressed files, once downloaded they need to unpack (just like a zip file) once unpacked they then need to install onto you hard drive. so your hard drive needs enough space for 1. the original download. 2. enough space to unpack . then 3 enough space left to install. once installed your hard drive will have A. your original download and B. your new unpacked installation.
I hope this helps you to understand why.

Edit. sorry didn't read this bit "327gb free space " that should be ample space..... is the game install pointing to the right drive?

Yeah thanks that made it clear, however reinstalling it fixed the problem. Although i tried avoiding it since i have a slow internet speed. But thanks anyways ^^

(Reinstalling it decreased the folder size from 112gb to 32.4gb, i love the face that reinstallign a game decreased the size...)

Having the same problem. This is really annoying because I'm having a terribly slow internet connection and the download was almost complete. Ah, well, guess I have to wait a bit more.

Do I have to delete the leftovers? I don't want to delete my save games.

If you want to keep your saves, find the "Saved" folder and copy it. Once you reinstall, paste it back. Can't check for the exact folder right now, but a google search should be enough to find the path.

Thank you. That helps a lot.
