Finding Rare Flowers on The Center...

So I'm on The Center, and I need Rare Flowers. I recently tamed a Therizinosaur, who are supposedly the best at harvesting Rare Flowers - even upgraded her Gentle Harvesting, or whatever it's called. Both the Wiki and a few other threads I was able to search out told me to go to the Swamp-biome, variously claiming that it could be harvested from white flowers in the water, or from tall orchid-like ones growing in the green swamp-areas.

So, I airlifted my Theriz down to the swamps near the floating island, and started searching. The 'white flowers in the water' bit was immediately proven wrong - you can't interact with those in any way, they're clearly just decorative. Whether on foot or on the dino, nothing I did affected them at all. The tall orchids, though... they were hard to find, certainly, but I finally located a cluster. Quite a few of them, too! But... they didn't drop ANY Rare Flowers. I pecked at them to start - that's the move that's supposed to be used for bushes, after all. Got me loads of regular berries and seeds and stuff, but nothing else. Then I tried 'tickling' them with the RMB-move. That got me a pile of fibers. I did both things repeatedly, to a bunch of swamp-orchids, and... nothing. Well, nothing I couldn't have gotten from a perfectly regular bush right outside my main base.

What am I doing wrong? So far, the only place I've found Rare Flowers are in beaver-dams...

Yes. I've seen it. It looks like a snowy bush. I saw a dozen snowy bushes that looked pretty much exactly like that, and only one of them gave me Rare Flowers.

What harvest settings do you use?

I've noticed that with The Island and Abberation the rare plant drops are sometimes tied to specific singular plants in a patch of bushes or mushrooms. Abberation was the only one to make it visible which one held the special drops. I saw it a lot on The island with getting plant-X seeds using the Theriz "tickle" attack on the catttails plants along the banks of the swamp. Only certain random bushes had the drop. Seemed just like in Abberation, where one mushroom in each cluster had what I wanted.(biotoxin and rare flowers)

I mention this because it is very possible that the snowy bushes in The Center could behave the same.(and it would explain why you only got rare flowers from one bush out of the snowy bush cluster when you tried it out) If i was not at work right now, i would test it for you. Just harvest all the snowy bushes you see, and roam around the mountains on the Theriz to test the theory.
(for some reason, the cattails plants along the swamp are not harvestable on The Center, but they are on The Island)

Interesting! I'll definitely check that out. Well, once I've made sure I can actually SURVIVE up there for protracted periods of time, that is. The frozen mountains of The Center gets BITTERLY cold. Full suit of fur clothes isn't enough - I'm trying to tame an Otter for added insulation.

just jump on a Bronto and head for the swamps .... you'll get tons of wildflowers

Just finished testing. I run 2x harvesting in my SP game. I hit up the snow bushes on the southern mountain, and the swamps too. Got no rare flowers on the Theriz with 120% delicate power, and 650% melee at all. On a bronto with 700% melee i sometimes got 1 or 2 rare flowers clearing out tons of snow bushes. The rate seemed slightly better on a mammoth that had 650% melee, sometimes getting me a maximum of 4 rare flowers from a snowy bush. I got virtually nothing from either one in the swamp. I spent about two hours doing this and came up with less than 100 rare flowers.

At least in SP, I guess the moral of the story is the best rare flowers versus effort spent for The Center is probably still just beaver dams.(unless you have harvesting set *really* high for your game) Maybe some free ones from moschops set to wander and gather near your base.(with gathering points put into rare flower gathering.)

Did you try the whole 'auto-harvesting swamp-flowers' idea suggested earlier? I haven't gotten around to doing that myself. Also, while that corresponds with my general experience, there's still the matter of that one weird snow-bush that handed me nearly 150 Rare Flowers somehow...

Well I tried moschops, since you can ride them, and specialize them for rare flower harvesting, but they cant harvest the snow bushes at all.

Then I flew out my Theriz again and this time just dismounted with the Theriz standing right over a snow bush, and with 2x harvesting, 800% Melee, and 119% delicate harvesting, i was getting about 50 rare flowers *per bush*. Just mount up, park it right over a snow bush, and dismount and it would harvest the bush in front of it. Doesn't even need to be set to wander. This method is definitely the best one for rare flowers. I collected 1200 flowers this way in just a few minutes.

I believe on the Center if you park the Theri in front of the flower and jump off it'll collect it. Haven't tried it, just heard it from a friend.

Well, at least there's a work-around... and seeing as The Center is a fan-made map, at least THIS particular bug cannot be laid at the feet of the devs. :P

Well, at least there's a work-around... and seeing as The Center is a fan-made map, at least THIS particular bug cannot be laid at the feet of the devs. :P

There are mods to grow rare flowers and mushrooms in crop plots. If this map issue cannot be overcome.

i was finally able to get on the center today and test the button combo i suggested, and i was wrong aboot alt+rmb, but did find the the correct button combo to push, it is c+rmb they must be pressed at the same time, the animation for it is the berry bite, but if u try it on normal berry bushes, the will it harvest the bush but nothing gather, when u use it on the snowy bush that they show on the wiki it will harvest only rare flowers.

edit the bushs that u can gather rare flowers from look fluffy version on the normal berry bush

Oh! That actually fits with my experience! That one time where I harvested a bush for 140-odd flowers, I was pretty much just fumbling with C and the mouse at the same time, and it did indeed look like the normal berry-bite. Guess now I know what happened. WEIRD, though. There's no way that's intended performance, right? Must be some kind of glitch. Or, more likely, two glitches effectively canceling each other out... >_>

but it gets the job done and it actually not a a glitch its an actully attack thats been there since theri came to ark

The effect is the same if you get off the Theriz with the snow bush in front of it. It harvests a bunch of rare flowers and nothing else from the bush. (though the animation is the RMB one for the "tickle" attack)
