1. The Center (it has water that split the areas which is a bit annoying sometimes, otherwise I think it is great).
I think The Center is a great map to play both without mods and with big mods that add a lot of creatures like primal fear, extinction core etc.
2. Ragnarok (It has a big snow mountain range that split the map which I don't really like and somehow I don't really like it as much as I feel like I should, I think it is generally the most popular map. But I might be wrong)
3. The Island (has kinda same feel to it as Ragnarok but feels a little worse)
4. Genesis & Scorched Earth, Genesis is new and has missions. Scorched Earth is a desert survival map so that is pretty nice.
5. Aberration.
My 3 most favorite maps are all playable with just the base game.
For PVP I think Extinction is the most important map, since I think Managarmr is the best dino for pvp. Imo Extinction is the worst map.
I could give you my personal top what ever, but i have no clue in what context your are looking to play/buy said maps, witch makes quite a difference imo.
Most played maps for servers at the moment according to battlemetrics website are Genesis, the Island, and ragnarok in that descending order.
But keep in mind that if you plan to play on servers that many are clusters where players use many maps and xfer between them at will. So unless you play single player, you may be restricting yourself somewhat in regards to what server maps in a cluster you can play on.
Keep in mind that only 4 maps though are paid dlc maps and all other maps are either free dlcs or modded content maps so you've still lots of choices even if you dont get any paid dlcs.
There are over 60,000+ unofficial server and the 1000ish legacy/official servers(majority play unofficial). You've plenty of choices.
I really don't know last time i played it when it was early access i'm just going into another dive again i'm really not sure how people play it again i'd most likely be looking for some pve or friendly server just don't know which one of the areas are mostly played
That's the context i was looking for tbh, right now the new DLC is very popular (Genesis) for obvious reasons.
But once that hype dies down, your likely to find most people on the free-dlc maps, simply because they have more to offer to people who play on servers (better dino spawn wieghts, more dino's from different DLC's so less transfers etc).
So that would mean:
Ragnarok, makes SE DLC as good as obsolete.
Valguero, since it contains some AB dino's.
Aberration and Extinction would be next, despite being loved and hated by an equal amount of people, these maps still offer special things compared to the free DLC maps (granted they are not modded in on the free DLC maps).
The rest i dunno tbh, but those 4 are likely to be the most populated, based on the creatures and items you can get there.
Not sure yet where Genesis is going to land in all this, despite having exclusive things, the reception is a very big bag of mixed opinions atm.
