Noob dealing with Therizino?
Greetings,

I'm very new to the game, still quite low on the learning curve. Playing single player, level 25.

Situation: I just set up a nice wooden shack, planning to enclose the area but before I got to that, a Therizinosaurus wandered into the area. It's only level 2, but it absolutely demolished my half dozen tamed dinos (a few Tek Paras, an Iguano, a Phimio, and a few small things.)

It then chased one of my pet Pegomastax off a ridge and got stuck on a small tree, so I managed to recover all my junk, but it's still way too close to my "base" for comfort.

So now I'm trying to decide how to deal with it.

I learned the hard way that an animal stuck on the environment is not necessarily an easy kill, as the first hit can just unlodge it. Though I only tried once, and it was a melee hit, dunno if arrows would have the same effect.

Bola doesn't work on it. Can't make bear traps yet.

I have a bow, with stone and tranq arrows. Could learn and make a crossbow.

What would be my best option here?
Do I even have a chance of killing it? Or knocking it out and taming it? (I have taming time reduced in the settings.)
Should I go poke it naked and run like hell to lure it as far away as possible before it kills me? Would it despawn or starve if it gets stuck long enough?

Theri's are the Rex of the herbivore world. Many of us use them for boss battles.

What you could have done was drawn its agro and run away luring it off a cliff or something. Sacrificing yourself.

Surround your base with spike walls.

If youre trying to tame it use dododex to calculate what you need. But dont trust it completely lol. Add another 30% to whatever dododex says for safety.

If you have enough Trang Arrows (100 for safety) I would find a cliff it can not reach you on and knock it out. Issue with Herbivors is you have to guard them from Predators while taming. Where the Carnivors usually you do not have that issue with like the Rex as nothing will mess with it.

Then pets you mentioned are pretty useless in terms of defending you. If you can a trike is a good starting defense pet. Time the attack just right for not back of anything it's size and smaller. Never take on a Rex with a Trike unless your trike is got a lot of HP and Melee. LOL.

If you are on other than Genesis do not underestimate a pack of Dilo in numbers over 6. They can be quite useful. Again when you get to things the size of a Rex well......Remember too you can attack a Bronto and his tail will aggro what is chasing you. Slick way to get away if you can survive his first hit. No guarantees he will win though.

Just one hint:
Tickle Chicken is very dangerous, just run.

Don't have 100 tranq arrows. 18 now, can probably make about 25 more without more gathering. I had a bunch more narcotics yesterday but then an Itchy came and stole them. :) (Learned to store them away now until I need them.)

It got unstuck, so I ran in without items and lured it away from the base for now. It's not super far away, but it lost aggro when I went behind a big rock, so I took my blessings and buggered off. Will have to keep an eye on that direction though, and build up some walls asap.

A trike is indeed one of the top things on my to-tame list. Tried at some point with normal arrows, but the rock I had picked out to stand on didn't turn out to be high enough. :)
But now that I can make tranq arrows, it's time to try again soon.
