Wtf versions?
Hi all!

So, recently me and my husband bought Ark for a friend, just the basic Ark without the DLCs so she could play "The Island" with us. When opening the game, me and my husbad's client shows we are in v306.83 tho my friend that has Ark without any DLC has the game in v306.86 and for that reason is unable to login to our server.

We have tried downloading the game again and again, doing file verification many times and nothing seems to change or fix this.

Steam shows no options to update the game any further. What could we be doing wrong?

Are either of you on a Mac or running Linux?

You and your husband are not doing anything wrong.
The correct client version is 306.83 and the correct server version is 306.86

It is not possible for your friend to have a client version 306.86 because it does not exist.
There has to be something else.

It's not possible to have a version mismatch unless someone hasn't updated their files since the last patch. DLC does not change the versions of the game, as everyone is forced to download the whole game including DLC content. You can even spawn in DLC tames using console commands even if you don't have the DLC.

Your friend is probably just having a hard time finding your server. This is common nowadays because ark times out before it searches for every Ark server around the globe, giving you an incomplete list. Try having him add the server through steam.

In Steam top toolbar>View>Servers
Filter the game to Ark.
Click add server and fill in the correct IP address and port, then join the server through that list.

The clients will always be the same version unless you are on different platforms. The server version can vary from the client, but to be prevented from connecting you normally have to be majorly out of date. (Like client 305.xx and server 306.xx)

Is the server you are using dedicated or non-dedicated?

If its dedicated, are you hosting it inside your home network or out on the internet?
