Can only afford one expansion, aberration or extinction?

Just what title said. Fell on hard times so don't have as much money to spend on games as I used to but things are getting better and I can afford to spend $10 on an expansion, which should I get?

I would wait and get the Season Pass which includes SE, Abb, Extinction and is on sale all the time. If you cannot wait then it depends on what you value/playstyle. Do you PVP or PVE only? Extinction for PVP and Abb for PVE.

Abberation is amazing. I have both and have truly enjoyed abberation land. Both are different than base maps like rag and the island.

you should have access to the engrams without the DLC
but to craft the items you can only get the resources from the respective maps.

- EXT is Biome Dome Based System: City Biome ; Snow Biome ; desert Biome ; Forgotten Wastes with Corrupted Dinos

- Abb is a Cave Based System: Rock/ Wall Climing : Ziplines/Gliders: Radiactive Zones
- Both are Enjoyable and have Exclusive Dinos

PVE, right now I'm playing on the Island with my wife. Will we get the Abberation Engrams if we buy the expansion and can we then craft them on the Island?

Yes to both assuming you have the resources. Many aberration engrams require green, blue, red gems found on Abb and not the island.

If they were on official they would have to transfer to ab to learn the ab specific engrams like zip lines. Unless their server all that added and unlocked.

1. Wait and get the season pass on sale. Why?

2. Because if you play unofficial servers that use various modded content or free dlc maps, you dont need the dlc's to get the engrams because the maps or mods or both allow you to learn/unlock them.


60,000+ unofficial servers out there to choose from.

Free dlc maps like ragnarok are essentially scorched earth and island engrams/assets combined.

Valquero is island, most scorched earth, and aberration combined.

Mod maps like the volcano are island se ab and extinction combined.

Aberration is easily the best DLC map ark came out with. It's massive, it's pretty, the new creatures are useful, the glider suit and climbing picks are very useful and fun, there's huge variety in the biomes, and the new challenges it brought were great for mixing gameplay up.

Extinction's map for the most part was pretty lackluster in my opinion, especially the sunken forest, that biome feels completely unfinished. However, extinction did add some of the coolest creatures we've ever gotten such as the Gacha. If you have admin rights on the server you can just spawn them in directly.

That being said, I agree with people saying to just wait for the season pass. May as well scoop all 3 up if you can. They're all good in their own ways, with aberration being the best in my opinion.

id say skip both till you get the season pass and play valguero and hope map meanwhile as those will keep you busy and cover most of the dinos in both maps.

but if i absolutely had to pick between both...and im gonna solo id probably do aberration. but since you got your wife and can duo extinction will be more fun.
