I'm running rx 5700 xt, r 2600x, 16 gigs of 3000 mhz and at the epic settings res slider at max, general shadows and terrain shadows high I don't get much lower then 60 fps
Serangel Mar 2, 2020 @ 8:48pm
I would call that a base line PC, not a good PC. You should still be getting 50-60 for in normal game conditions on medium with some high settings.

Things to note, you're not gonna run this game at 4k max settings 60+ fps no mater what PC you have. Turning just the two shadow settings to low greatly increases fps. Make sure the resolution slider is maxed. Turn off third party programs, this kills performance because of arks high demand. Fps will vary from server to server to single player even on the same map in the same place and official servers are notorious for destorying fps. Single player is also hard on it because the game runs as a server even in single player. A well kempt unofficial server can offer the best fps.

There are plenty of guids on maximizing for for ark on steam and Google

Yeah don't do that. Try a mix of High/Epic.

It's always going to look a little bit ass-y and shimmery at 1080p, but a with a 3700x and 590 you shouldn't need to even drop settings to medium, let alone less.

How is your system benchmarking? Tried userbenchmark and Superposition to make sure it's running in line with similar hardware?

Your performance should be right in line with a GTX 1660: https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1660-vs-AMD-RX-590/4038vs4033

While not stellar or even good compared to high-end GPUs, it should still be a decent mid-spec GPU.
