Magmasaurs - Testing & Notes.
Hi all,

A quick post on Magmasaurs and what my tribe and I have discovered so far.

- Magmasaurs attacks are as follows:

Right click (Hold down to charge): Mortar fire ball, damage is % based and can destroy all structures (Yet to test vs TEK). Turrets will shoot the fireball, however the ball will explode similarly to a cluster grenade, making the turrets shoot for quite a while after the initial explosion. This makes the Magmasaur an extremely potential "soaker".

Left Click: Swipe, usual swipe attack damaging creatures and players in front of the magmasaur. This attack also allows to magmasaur to gather resources. See wiki page for resource gather potential.

Right click + C: Eruption, the magmasaur erupts, firing lava all around it. Similarly to the mortar attack this also damages structures, however the range is greatly reduced.

Space: Taunt, the magmasaur taunts nearby creatures (Haven't got it to work on tamed creatures)

-Magmasaurs are affected by the environment

Magmasaurs cannot use their mortar attack in the rain (Bog), In snowstorms (Arctic) and both these environments greatly increase the charge time on the mortar attack. They are also significantly slower in any other environment but the Volcano.

-Magmasaurs as an egg collector

Be careful when approaching wild magmasaurs with a tamed one. The "It's getting hot attack" will still damage the player when close.

Magmasaurs are immune to lava. If a player is mounted and the volcano erupts, both the player and the magmasaur are immune and will survive. However, despite the immunity to lava, they are not immune to fire damage, therefor other magmasaur attacks will damage the tame.

Despite the magmasaur saddle "Boxing you in" a bloodstaker can still pick the player off the mount, making blood stalkers a great threat to riders.

-Magmasaur babies

Magmasaur babies will only eat Ambergris, obtained by mining the green tinted rocks in the lunar biome.

Be sure not to activate the forge on baby magmasaurs as this will cause significant food drain, potentially killing the babies before they have enough weight to eat the Ambergris.

Magmasaur babies take a significant amount of time to grow, testing a 10x server, magmasaurs take approx 23 hours to fully mature.

Additional notes to follow.

I cant for the life of me perform the "Eruption" attack. No combination of keys seems to do the trick. And I didnt remapp them.

Imho Magmasaur growth time is way too long, they should be 100% immune to fire damage and the driver aswell. The reason I was getting Magmasaur was to fight other Magmasaurs but according to your post this is basically pointless since they can still harm the driver. I just can use my rex and deal 10 times more dmg most likely.
The fact that they grow so slow and their food is ridiculously fast spoiled, you cannot leave them out to grow at night or they will die. Stupid. Really stupid.
I've been personally sitting on Magmasaur maturing for 5th day now, done 14+ hours a day just keeping them fed. We are 5x maturation rates, I would never bother doing this on officials.

But I just can't understand the reasoning behind the fire damage. Like the only reason magma is good to get is to fight other magmasaurs so you would be safe from its burning attacks...

I have similar issue with Bloodstalkers "parachute" ability. I have changed Control to be Crouch and because of this, my control won't use the "parachute" ability on Bloodstalker, there is no key that does it. I don't want to revert back to the default keys because the default keys are just in bad place and not what I'm used to.

Get TEK Trough or if you don't have one then at least preserving salt.

@Lycinus, Hold down Right click as if you were charging a mortar shot and simply press C

and now it costs 1 metal ingot to fire a mortar shot
Unprofessional Mar 6, 2020 @ 10:43pm
So they require an ingot and full food bar to fire 1 shot now, and that shot now drains your food bar completely, mix that with the constant need to smelt metal on the go and we basically have a glorified mortar with no practical use outside pvp. I don't usually care for major changes (last thing I really hated was the griffin nerf a couple years back) but this, this is just hours of my time wasted.

i can use them like normal on sp, no need for ingot or full food and it dosent competely drain it, i wonder why?
also force using stone can rapidly refill food bar

not sure if I'm the only one who noticed it but force feeding Ambergris to Magmasaurs works like force feeding meat to carnivores used to before the timer was added except it heals something like 20 hp per feeding. On official I don't see it being as much of an issue with the basic rates but boosted servers where stockpiling 2k or 3k Ambergris on your Magmasaur would make it the ultimate bullet sponge as you could heal faster than you'd take damage. I found this out in my solo world and heal my magmasaur from 8k hp to 24k in about 5-10 seconds.

this is basically what i was thinking, my server doesnt engage in heavy pvp, and we already thought the magmasaur was kinda underwhelming but now its just crap
and they did this with a stealth nerf no patch notes, i literally thought my magmasaur was broken at first
thanks for compiling this!

Use gasoline to refill its food bar quickly.
