Trying to build a hexagonal building using Homestead parts, can't place sloped ceilings... help please?
I'm getting really frustrated. I wanted to make what seemed like a simple little hexagonal building. Six triangle foundations in the middle, a regular straight foundation off of each of those and then another six triangles to fill in the gaps. Add walls, add sloped ceilings and done! NOT.

The problem is that the sloped ceilings won't attach to the top of the walls correctly. They'll happily go on sideways (diagonally between the top of the wall and the floor, rotated always so that the highest part is on the right.) And sometimes they'll try to snap to one of the foundations making up the floor. But the only time they even think about connecting to the tops of the walls, they either point exclusively the wrong way, or they "vibrate" back and forth between two or more of the possible choices for snap points. I just try to place them, they almost always pick whichever rotation I *least* want them to be in, so that I have to immediately pick them up again before it becomes permanent.

I know building in Ark has always kind of sucked. But I don't remember it being *this* bad the last time I played. And I've seen screenshots of supposedly "no mods, all vanilla" builds of castles with towers, greenhouses with multi-teir hexagonal roofs and more. So I would assume it should be possible. But I've spent the last two hours fighting with this and haven't gotten it to work even by *accident.*

Am I doing something wrong, or does building in ark really just completely suck for building anything but a box?

I've played a number of games with building, Ark really doesn't suck worse than any other, many have mechanics that are more limited and more annoying, the important thing to do is figure out how it works before you start building giant castles. Even when you add mods like S+ to fix or adjust some issues with vanilla building the mods invariably introduce their own issues and restrictions that you have to work with to get your building done.

What you probably need is some kind of internal structure to direct the ceilings to snap in the correct direction, this guy uses thatch slopes in his builds for similar reasons he's doing it on PS4 so no mods to worry about:
