Genesis file downloads then gets stuck on installing
I have now downloaded the genesis update file 3 times and when it gets to the installing part it freezes, and the remaining install time keeps increasing. This morning I woke up to it saying "more than a year" remaining time. I have a download speed of 5-10 MB per second, so I don't believe it is an internet issue. Any help??

so they've managed to not only ruin a game which had so much potential to also somehow mess up a download file?
P.s. can I have your download speed :O

It is quite annoying, I have resorted to uninstalling the entire game. Am currently installing it again so hopefully that works!

Check if your drive c is full because the download goes not into the steamfolder like it should, but into drive c.

unfortunately it isn't that, I made sure I have more than enough space on all drives

If you have not bought Genesis you still have to download ~18 GB which must be unzipped after downloading ... that takes a while.

This is the exact issue im currently having with it and i cant free up enough space to finish the download which is starting to drive me mad

currently have 50gb freed up on my C drive so hoping it works now but knowing my luck it probably wont

For luck I gave my swap file the generous size of 128 GB. After reducing it to 64 GB I had enough space for the update. Now after it's done I set it back to 128 GB.

Steam is supposed to check other drives it has access to for additional space to finish these downloads - this was stated in an update. but it isn't doing that. plenty of space on my drive where Ark is actually installed but Steam will send the update only to my C: drive then give up completely when its maxed out (with only 5GB left to download). been dealing with this for 2 days. no solution yet.

Just a tip, for massive dlc updates (yes, even those that didn't buy it) always have around 150GB free on the ARK drive, with that one has the best chance for an error free install.

This is what I posted on our community discord a day before the release "Just a friendly reminder that bar another delay the Genesis ARK DLC should be released tomorrow. If they hold true to past traditions then to reduce the likelihood of install issues make sure to have 150GB+ free space on your ark install drive."

All of us who play ark did that and so far nobody has problems.

The issue is how these large updates are handled and unpacked, they need around 2-3x the amount of free space than the download size to install in a reliable manner.

If you can't free up enough space then another option for you is to completely uninstall and re-install the game.
This will require less space because you will be downloading the up-to-date version of the game and it will not require immediate patching and such a large amount of free disk space for install.

Note that if you had a lot of mods previously installed and you don't need them those also can use massive amount of storage space, I have 200GB on mine due to the duplication issue of how they are downloaded and installed and only one copy is uninstalled when you unsubscribe so I delete them manually.

Good luck!

ive currently got 100gb free on my C drive with 346 free on D drive. everything BUT Genesis installs just fine onto the D drive but once it gets to Genesis it uses the C drive to install and somehow takes up all that free space it has there which has now been an issue for 2 days

That is very odd, my drive H for ARK had 160GB free before the Genesis update, my drive C had 50GB free.

During the install my C drive went down by only 1GB, everything was downloaded and installed to H where ark is, space after install = 130GB for a total addition of 30GB, I did buy Genesis so that is including the map.

Did you try uninstalling and re-installing?
