This set of Legacy server keeps shrinking, as you would expect, but the up side is that we're all getting to know each other pretty well, since we're all being forced onto the same servers.
ETA: Cjay, I'm honestly surprised they are going to provide Legacy Genesis servers, and I'll believe it when I see it.
ETA: You DO realize that Legacy was Official while Ark was in EA?
ETA:ETA: Wildcard DID spend a lot of time informing people about this. And every new DLC since has resulted in low traffic Legacy servers shut down to be "repurposed", I presume to be recycled as new DLC Legacy servers. We had a set of servers shut down this DLC, so I take that as meaning they will eventually crank up *some* Genesis Legacy servers.
It is such a shame they could not marry the servers up. I feel gutted so i would hate to think how someone with x3 the ammount of hours played that i have is going to feel.
In retrospect, naming servers with a limited life span "Legacy" might not have been a great move on Wildcard's part, because that sounds like they are going to be around a while. But they never said outright they were "getting rid" of them, just that if the player base dropped, they'd start weeding out the low use servers. Which is perfectly reasonable, you can't expect Wildcard to pay for servers that are ghost towns. Again, the information was out there if you thought to look for it, but if you don't know to look, well you don't know.
If you have any talent in leveling up in Ark, starting from scratch is not so hard. As a matter of fact it's actually kind of fun to start over, and not make all the mistakes you made when you first started.
Legacy users have been advised time and time again what to expect. Since 2017!!! Can't be helped if you're not seeking the information out as it is there.
Legacy clusters are the old Early access servers. Rather than wipe them at release in 2017 they labelled them as legacy.
They were very clear that you would receive zero support and eventually ALL legacy servers would be deleted.
You've had 3 years notice. Boggles the mind why anyone is still on legacy knowing it's gonna get deleted.
I saw a tweet earlier stating that gen legacy servers are being launched soon of not already. However I strongly suggest you consider moving sooner rather than later
"Boggles the mind why anyone is still on legacy knowing it's gonna get deleted."
The OP has a point that if one started playing since the initial flurry of announcements about the fate of Legacy servers, one might think that Legacy servers would be a good place to start. The word "Legacy" can be defined as:
"Something inherited from a predecessor or the past; a heritage." and "A piece of ones' history left behind for following generations to experience."
Which clearly indicates there should be some permanence to Legacy servers.
*I* am still on Legacy servers because I've been playing on Legacy servers for years. I understand that they aren't going to be around forever, but since I've got an investment of time and effort into Legacy servers, as long as there are Legacy servers I have no incentive to start anew on the regular Official servers. Perhaps it would have been better for me to have been forced to start over cold turkey, but now, that's my problem and not yours.
You might have a point about support, but do you really think you get substantially more support on regular servers? I *have* gotten support on Legacy servers, so that's not entirely true anyway. Lastly, you don't know "it's gonna be deleted" any more than a regular server that gets no players would "be deleted". They never said they were simply going to delete them. They said they would evaluate player activity and delete them *if* there wasn't enough logins to justify the expense of running the server, which is exactly what they've been doing.
WC support if you get it is pretty woeful I'll give you that. But it's marginally better than none at all.
As soon as the announcement was made in 2017 my tribe and I bailed. Not going to put further time into an environment with an uncertain future.
We can play with the definitions and the wording for sure. As an IT engineer "legacy" to me is quite clear. Deprecated. Old. Unsupported. Likely to be buggy. Not getting any further attention from the dev. AKA upgrade or migrate from it ASAP.
Re their "justification" they were never clear what level of activity they considered justified to keep the server. Feel sorry for any of the sods who thought they were safe to then have their servers deleted based on it reaching whatever threshold WC deemed fit. After every round of cleanups see a bunch of threads on here with people trying to find their server.
Wildcard please provide an ETA for legacy genesis players when you can. Thanks!
Given this is a public community forum I don't need to be asked to join a conversation. So sort out that toxic attitude of yours.
Just stating that y'all are taking a risk on those hours you value so much. I truly hope that the day doesn't arrive that you, like many before you, are on this forum asking where your server has gone!
Re the genisis legacy servers. Pretty sure Cedric was tweeting about the ETAs.
The subsequent closure of servers does not indicate a complete closure of Legacy, it indicates that those closed servers were not being used and so they closed them. Makes good business sense. I work very hard and some serious hours so when it comes to playing Ark i dont go routing around looking for information, I click on the game and play it.
I only found out yesterday that the servers are likely to close down because i was talking to a friend about Genesis not being on Legacy the same time as the Official servers and that is when i was told. People have many reasons why they would not know something but not all of us get to live on computers.
