Help is it possible to make a species extinct?
I think early on when i played this game i kinda killed anything and everything, but now i want to tame a Thyacoleo aka "tree cat" I have spent hours looking through the red wood forest and i can't find one anywhere, have i accidentally killed them off?

It's not possible, though the world of ARK is dynamic and over time predators and their counters will be eliminated rapidly. It's best to do "Destroywilddinos" command to fix the ecosphere every-so-often.

No... you cannot make them extinct.

The only way to remove critters is via the games .ini files in SP and unofficial servers.

Thylacs can be hard to spot.

as Zodiac said your best best is to try the destroywildinos command. if it is anything like my previous games you likely killed a large chunk of land creatures so now there are thousands of fish in the waters taking up spawn amounts.

Thylacs do not share spawn nodes with fish... on any map afaik.

On Island and Center they do not share a node with anything... on Rag they do share with others... but not fish.

Valguero ... who knows.... gamepedia has no spawn map for Val.

the only possible way to make a species extinct is to use the dino replace command to another
Astaelan Feb 25, 2020 @ 7:05pm
No, but this can happen in the wild from time to time. Start killing things where you normally see Thyla's. In short, the spawn system works by saying "Spawn these 20 dinos at this location, with a weight factor of 1 each". Some will have a weight of less than one, making them rarer to be spawned. Simply put, start killing stuff in the area and come back later. If you own the server there are cheat commands for wiping all dinos as mentioned, there is also an option for servers to reset all spawns when loaded (I often run this option just to shake things up on restarts).

Hi, I am playing single player, I have found it too hard to play on others as they are really high levels and so are the dinos so i keep dieing over and over, i gave up, but i will give that ago "killing everything again" I am not sure how to do the command things, i wish i did know tho.. Thank you.

Prevent Taming
PreventDinoTameClassNames=**ClassName
Prevents the specified dino class from being tamed.
Astaelan Feb 25, 2020 @ 7:13pm
Just need to open the console, which I think is tab by default. Then type in the "destroywilddinos" on single player, and all the dinos should disappear and slowly start respawning.

They are all lying to you, you most certainly made them extinct. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.
