Wanting care means it's time to imprint.
i think babys and adults have different setting, ye ?
just check his foodlevel after birth, note the number. One Milk gives 1200 Foodpoints.
edit: usually a food level of 1600 means i would survive the Baby Stage without Milk and would feed from a nearby trough as juvenile.
But if you switched the food consumption off, it might not need food at all.
When food stat reaches zero, it starts using health. When health reaches zero, it dies.
So in regards to food, dont let it starve to death, but also dont over feed it. Its food stat slowly goes up as it grows older so if you over feed it, its a waste.
Also, dont put the milk in a trough for it to eat, it will use it all too fast and it will be as if its been over fed as mentioned above. If you've an infinite supply of milk thats fine but otherwise you dont want to waste.
So look at the maturing % and about how long it takes to go up .1 and in ratio to the decreasing food number and thus plan your feedings accordingly.
"Care in 8 hours" is unrelated to your keeping the baby from starving. Care is the imprinting system(giving you bonuses to stats). In 8 hours, your baby will want to randomly do one of the following things:
1. Take a short walk with you(put on follow and walk it until you get % of imprint bonus).
2. Cuddle(press e to "hug" it).
3. A special food(milk, kibble, etc semi random)
etc.
Each time you complete a care task, you get a % value of imprinting(and thus bonus stats to the dino). Failure to do this can result in loss of previous % imprinting to the point of going to zero respectively too.
So all in all you need to feed your dino at semi regular intervals to keep it from starving and plan out your care needs for imprinting accordingly.
Good luck.
but as someone who raise 3 wyverns without milk on official server all i can say is milk isnt necessary to raise wyverns anymore, its better to use Daeodon + Cryopod trick,
but if you really want to raise with milk and without cryopod you can calculate the time on the food deplete..
baby wyvern depleting food 1 every 10 seconds, and wyvern milk give 1200 food each, so if your baby have 1200 food stats at that time, it will survive for about 3 hours without milk
my wyver have 1600 / 6400 food
Im at 5% and the food still not going down xD
For a solo-Game with singleplayer-settings on, even 0.1 timeframes matter for the imprint-process.
You must find a balance for the imprint-settings and the maturing setting. And this is different for every dino. (I think wyverns are one of the slowest to grow up.) Just play with the setting, it's very worth it.
If you don't play Singleplayer, however, forget what I just wrote. (The admins did manage that, then.)
