Giga Torpor
Hello,
recently i already asked how to properly trap a giga, because some escaped my traps. Now thats working and i found a lvl 140 giga. Tapped him started shooting, only had 2 rifles for around 260 darts. Should have taken 423 (thats what the calculator says) i notice that i dont have enough durability with 2 rifles so i fly back at like 400 darts and get 4 more. I go back and hope that his torpor was still rising (took me around 2 mins to the base and back) Then i went on, through the night. After 360 shots i go closer and look how much torpor he has..... 33k and still going down rapidly. How the hell am i gonna tame one if im alone ? It looks like his torpor goes down faster in the time i reload than the amount he gets when i shoot him once. Im pretty sure i didnt make any breaks in between shooting. Only times were when i stopped for like 5 seconds to sort inventory, reload other weapons. And in that short time his torpor should still be going up. Now where did i make the mistake ?

A giga's torpor is crazy ... it drops faster than an hooker's panties.

Oh, I always thought people were talking about when it was already knocked out. I've heard you should use crossbows because you'll never kill it and they have a smaller window for torpor to stop raising.

i tamed a lvl 20 giga before with a tribe m8, but he isnt online atm and i dont want the giga to despawn. The torpor of the lvl 20 giga was still rising after 96 shots, around 2 k torpor did it rise, then it was knocked out. Whats different with the lvl 140 one ? I blasted over 400 darts into it. Maybe the rapid fire. Me and the tribe m8 are shooting double the darts in the same time, maybe thats it. But then taming a giga alone would be impossible...no ?

So i guess i gotta use a crossbow ?

dinos whos torpor is annoying.. #4 beaver, #3thery, #2giga,#1Dimetridon

first off, for #2 you need the highest % rifle or crossbow you can find. biotoxin darts preferred for giga can be down with crossbow but you will be shooting a long time and slightly less with tranq darts. Biotoxin darts is kind of a must for solo taming.

Then as soon as it knocks down...use biotoxin not narcotics.Unless you have already made hundreds of narcotics for use.

you think gigas torpor drains fast...try a dimetridon sometime. you blink 3 times and its drained.

A worse crossbow will out tranq a better long neck, at least with in a reasonable difference. If you have a blueprint for any crossbow use that. But a primitive will work as well. Make like 10 of them and carry as many arrows as you can make.
Veeshan Feb 3, 2020 @ 12:40pm
And be ready with an hour's worth of narcoberries obv.

The higher the lvl of an animal. the more torpor it has, and the faster the drain per second.

Best bet. high quality crossbow and keep shooting, bring plenty of arrows with you and don't let up, just keep pumping arrowws without waiting

those 2 are not comparable. the rifle+shock tranquilizing dart owns anything before it by quite a bit.

a basic crossbow @ 100% is 135torp per hit
a basic rifle+dart @100% is 221 torp per hit
a basic rifle+shock dart @ 100% is 442 torp per hit.

a scendant crossbow @200% is 270torp per hit
acendant rifle low 200% 884 per hit.

for a lvl 150giga at the basic x1 dododex even tells you.
crossbow will take 632 shots!! compared to 225 shock darts..the choice is pretty darn obvious. or.... 112 shots with a 200% rifle.

Okay guys, 660 arrows, 4 and 1/2 broken crossbows, 30 Darts (if i take the try before that around 500) 2 Broken Longnecks, 60 failed hit and reload animations later and the lvl 140 is down, shot all 660 tranq arrows and only got 6 of the 30 darts left. Thx for all the advise and tricks, i will keep them in mind: giga taming => crossbow with ALOT of darts

1. It was a 140 giga, 2. im not a high enough lvl for shocking darts 3. I dont have any high % rifle 4. I looked at dododex and used the values, but it still didnt get downed because i didnt shoot fast enough

still just be careful once you finally knockout that colossal fossil: THEY DON'T STAY ASLEEP FOR LONG

for instance a lvl 150 Giga only takes 4 minutes to wake up so prepare to have lot's of narcotic's being gobbled up by these giants, on x1 taming server's it will take hours to tame them even with Exceptional or Extraordinary kibble (2 hrs and 13 minutes), if the server's taming is set to like x5 then it wont take nearly as long but still you got a lot of preparations to do

once tamed you still need to be very cautious when riding a Giga, if it takes too much damage too quickly then it'll fly into a blind rage and attack ANYTHING they see (wild creature's, your own tames, any player including yourself) except other tamed giga's your tribe may have (side note if one tamed giga get's enraged then it causes a chain reaction thus all other nearby tamed giga's you own will also become enraged). Their rage only lasts for about 20 seconds....but that's more then enough time for them to leave A LOT of collateral damage in their wake (so if a Giga get's enraged: RUN!)

and one final thing I should add for the Giga: NEVER EVER attack ANY Kentrosaurus with a Giga, their reflecting damage will be more then enough to instantly cause a giga to enter rage mode

I dunno all the Giga's i have tamed have always been with Shocking Tranqs, with the best Ascendant rifle, and a couple of hours of preparation prior to even contemplating trapping one and taming it.

Too much can go wrong trying to tame one, and not being overly prepared is a huge waste of effort.

Also.... Take this as you will, but a Giga is just a status tame or PvP server tame, they are a huge liability to have around and can really ruin yer day if not careful, i guess storing one in a Cryo and popping it out when needed is ok, but i prefer a good bred Rex over a Giga anyday. Seriously though, when is a Giga needed ?

makes sense....unless it's Extinction where you will need Giga's to even have a chance of taking down the King Titan (especially the Mecha One which is Alpha)

plus I will agree with the breeding part as a Baby Giga takes a LOOONG time to mature (11 days, 16 hrs & 35 minutes for a baby giga to fully mature....thats a lot of time for a baby that's the size of a raptor)

I know all that, also knocked out gigas already, the problem was just that i never had it that their torpor decreases 5 secs after shooting them. Got it now tho
