Snow Owl Taming Tips?

So the other day me and my tribe (there's three including me) went to tame a snow owl on our tapejara. We weren't even in the snow globe when I (being on the back of the tapejara) got killed by those new ice dragons (I can't remember what they're called :P). We went back, got my body, and went to try again. This time, we got halfway in, then guess what happens.. I get killed again, and we're forced to abandon mission. Any tips on how to get one without getting killed by those new ice dragon things?

That kind of depends, Ark is notorius for having issues with hit's registering due to server de-syncs, although i do agree with that tactic is not always an option (hench why taming traps are so popular).

Using another bird kite the owl into a 2x2 taming pen, walls made of door frames 4 high, 2x2 ceiling. Place it high up where no other wilds will come by.

Dismount bird, owl will focus on hitting it, close dino gates of pen and start tranqing owl.

Owl has low damage, won't kill your bird before it is down.

I got my two by keeping an eye on the border between the wastes and the snow biome. I've seen owls flying out of the snow biome to attack things in the wastes, and i simply KO them outside the snow entirely. (Using longneck rifle and tranq darts, 2 players firing at it and letting it use my argent on passive as a meat shield)

Just use the tried and tested doorframe pens but go big with it to cover all your needs. They provide walls and ceiling for the pen with no structural or foundation needs outside of themselves. Put a door on both ends, tow the wild dino in, dismount your flier on the end and close the door then run to the other side and close the other. Leave a few gaps to enter and/or shoot into from. Some people use the smaller dino gates for owls but it can be tricky to get them to path inside correctly.

I've used that setup for other dinos- Argentavises on Island for example- just worried that a foxdrake will ambush me while I'm shooting it.

In the snow dome area, there are some structures that you can Kite Snow Owls into, when inside tranq them and when they try to fly away they get stopped by the structure.

Or bring with you, 1 gate, 1 door, 9 fence foundations, 9 ceilings, and 36 doorframs (not S+ dbldoorframes). Drop the gate, make a box connected to the gate using the fence foundations, place the doorframes on the foundations, cover the top. Takes maybe 3 minutes to place it all, then just shoot the owl, run into the trap, wait for it to follow, run out the back run around the front, shut the gate, and tame away.

Can use wood cause they wont do wnough damage before you tame it. Stone ie better but well whatever works right ?

You may have to modify it since the owl is larger... but you have time enought to even do a 2x2 before the bola drops off

Agreed that the regular dino gates are a challenge to get owls into. Took me a few tries to snag one, but eventually got it. Then leveled it, took it and my three Argy's to a red drop...just to see if I could do it. Got to wave three...Gigas, Spinos, Carnos, WYVERNS, Pteras...lost all my birds, but survived the massacre and ran home to lick my wounds. I hindsight it is rather funny. All those murdersauruses in one place...and me with my four little birdies. LOL
