Because a small case that doesn't allow the cool air to get in and the hot air to get out you can add the best water-cooler on the market and still won't do much for you.
Best way is get a better case with more internal space and one that has 2-4 coolers and at least reapply thermal paste to the cpu, ideally a good cooler if you're using the stock one might help.
Be in mind next time you buy a pc that you want play games avoid the mini ATX boards like plague, everything is to close to each other and the air flow will suck.
This game is still horribly optimized on PC and requires a powerful PC to play on high settings despite it being on the PS4, XB1 and Switch which are significantly weaker than the average gaming PC.
With your laptop specs you should be able to run this game on max settings easily.. but thanks to the bad optimization the game is far more demanding than it should be and you just can't.
You might need to clean out all the dust.
its not cuz of dust... this is pretty normal for a laptop :D
also, yeah.. I can run the game on max settings easily... but yeah, thermals are just way too high.. and Ark is not one of those games that looks somewhat decent on low settings... in fact, its pretty bad at medium too. I can easily run some of the most recent games, like BO4, etc. no thermal issues with those games..
It's also pretty normal for dust to be in a laptop, it is most likely dust.
Yes the small case is a factor but laptops are usually on a bed or your knee, it's portable so they'll be moving it around. The dust in the air while it's being moved, dust on a bed or sofa, it will be everywhere.
To get over a cooling problem, have the front of the keyboard on your thighs and the back of the laptop propped up on (preferrably) a table and adjust the monitor. That allows air to get to the bottom of the computer and to the sides. I used to have a laptop to play the sims and heating was an issue because of the old software every sims game is made on.
Of course you could use a cooling pad but you could also just have a desktop ;)
