Bary -> basilo then if you want mosa -> tuso
I love the basilo. So I usually just stop there. Get good breeders.
Get an angler fish once you can survive the deep. To farm silica pearls.
I spent a lot of time just exploring and getting used to being down there before I had the confidence to really start doing stuff ha.
Good luck! :)
watch out for leechies if your on a raft.
megalodons are worthless unless you tame a bunch
you can build platform saddles for plesiosaurs and mosasaurs and if you want to tame a tsuo you can use a turtle with high HP to tame it and then have it grab a mosa to easily tame mosas. mosas and tsuo's are the kings of the ocean.
make sure you have a bed on your raft and never swim too far away from it and also make sure to bring plenty of extra scuba gear on the raft as well. it really helps if you die while under water you can just spawn on your raft grab scuba gear and swim down to get your stuff back. I also recomend brining a toad on your raft for quick item retrivel or useing a manta that is set to follow your raft.
mantas are great for speed and super fun to ride on. it is like a jet ski.
Mods: The mod aditional creatures adds a few interesting and usefull underwater dinos that all have great utility purpouses.
Pyria: mythos evolved adds mermaids and shark people to the water which are balanced for vanilla game play (They just dont fit the lore of the world well)
Ark additions pack adds a sea turtle mount and ancient bone fish which are great mounts and are wonderfully balanced for the game and even fit the lore of ark.
Try the upgrade station mod. You can bp any gear you find so it's replaceable. You can also grind for upgraded gear, instead of relying on drops.
If you really dislike losing stuff. The awesome teleporter mod likes you recovery your stuff after death.
then backup your savegame beforehand ^^
baryonyx is a solid advice imho. can be tamed on land, can defend itself (especially with it's tail spin).
i personally also enjoy beelzebufos, but imo they are more for shore exploration/rivers.
ichthys (dolphin) are cute and kind of fast, but they can't really take heat. on the plus side they are a pretty easy kibble tame (dodo egg+passive tame).
Dolphins are really just for treasure grabbing and getaway, they are unreliable for high lvl players. You will probably want to start with Baryonyx, they aren't just excellent cave mounts, they also can breath underwater and tank hits while killing eels effectively. Then you will want to try to tame a plesio, or skip straight to Mosasaur. Both are very strong, but Mosa is way more powerful. The best way to tame them without a tamed squid is to stay above them. They won't chase you if you get too close to the surface, there's an invisible ceiling for plesio, mosa, anglers, and squids.
Basilosaurs are tricky to tame, and they can be hard to find, but when you do find them, they come with literally 10 mantas. Baryonyx can demolish the whole manta army effortlessly. Basilosaurs are incredibly useful for being immune to jellyfish, eels, and squid grabs while also being tanky. They however take damage if they go too deep, not too much damage, but it stops the HP regen. But if they're not too deep, they heal pretty fast.
Squids are either easy or difficult, you definitely want to feed them black pearls to tame them. They are passive tames, but the only way to tame them is when they grab a dino, that's when you dismount and swim to its beak and feed it. Then you'll want to swim to the surface with the grabbed dino on follow. It'll follow you to surface when freed, then you just wait for the squid to be hungry.
Sharks are sadly useless, but anglers are amazing as they can harvest pearls.
For combat purposes, I'd go Baryonyx/sharks -> Basilosaurs/Plesio -> Mosa/squid. Jellyfish will probably be your biggest threat, unless you're on a basilo or squid (squids are not immune, but they don't get stunned)
- raft base with bed and spare scuba gear
- toad / sarco (other thread) / baryonyx to start out
What about beaver? I have not yet seen toads or baryonyx but have a beaver in my oasis.
Also i don't like mods. They kill my appreciation for a game. I will equally not play online either.
Thanks for the help, much appreciated.
I guess I'll let my beaver build dams then. I am so happy i never ever have to craft cementing paste.
Albeit that's a bit more advanced when you know what you're doing. To start out you can tame ichtyornis with dodo kibble, just to get your feet wet (pun intended). Find and tame a decent shark (actually pretty easy tames). Baryonix are decent ocean starting dinos as well, but a bit more risky to tame.
Youll want multiple scuba tanks, a good crossbow and arrows, and remember to take at least a stack of food with!
I went for the Baryonyx and made it in my second attempt. First attempt crashed my game lol. I crafted scuba gear and a saddly for my bary and hopped in the water. Fought off 2 sharks simultaneously and then went for two oil sources. That was quite enough for my first experience and I headed home to u load stuff.
I did see a large aquatic dino in the distance surrounded by smaller creatures. Steered clear off it.
Only thing bugging me about bary is his low up and down speeds.
Are you using the Bary tail spin attack that stuns?
The basilo is usually surrounded by manta. The stun is great for those manta. Just pull them away from the basilo so you can tame it once clear. It's a passive tame.
