The Island and Extinction Use The Same Character Possible Bug Or Intended

Esh so I started a new character on all the story maps and discovered an issue. The Island and Extinction use the same character. I decided to choose spawn a new character on the Islands location map and it popped up "Your previous character will be deleted". Fine delete it. I then loaded Extinction and dang it deleted my character! It also saves all game data under one folder instead of seperate folders like the other maps

A bug or intended? The other maps let me start new characters so I hope this is a bug

It's a bug. SP extinction save dosen't have it's own folder. It uses the Island one.

Make redundant backups of your saves folders everytime you play.

Yeah big issue this. I lost my very high level Island character this way. What worries me now , if I load up Island now will I have lost ownerships of all my multiple bases and dinos on Island since I created a new character on Extinction. I haven't loaded up Island yet , only saw this issue here on the discussions today so first thing I do tonight is load up Island with this new character and see if I have lost all ownerships there.

You 99.9% did. By making an extinction character it overwrote your Island character. Unless you made redundant backups.

***sigh*** WC and their bugs. I do have a backup of the weekend that will restore Island. That will mean I will only loose everything I did in Exctinction yesterday and will start over there. But that will also mean I will be forced to play Extinction with my Island character when starting over , and I prefer a seperate character on each map :(

You would manually have to swap out saves until WC fixes it.

I personally just run a personal LAN server with ASM instead of single player mode.

What worries me now is , I can restore and start over with Extinction and play with my Island character. But what happens the day WC fixes this ? Will I then suddenly have to create a new character on Extinction when the issue gets fixed and no longer play with my Island character there anymore. Then loose all permissions for everything in Extinction and have to start over AGAIN ? The more I think about this the more I am thinking to not play Extinction at all until this gets fixed. I am fine to loose just yesterday's work , but it won't be fine too loose all the work done over however long time it takes them to fix this.

PS: Can't do the LAN thing. Don't have a 2nd pc and on same pc I couldn't get it to work and nobody at ASM forums or all google searches could find the issue and assist me.

EDIT: Started up Island now , confirmed ALL ownerships lost. A complete mess.
I'm restoring my save folder and not touching Exctinction until they fix this.

And just type TakeTribe 0 while looking at a former-yours creature gives you ownership of everthing from the tribe where the creature your looking at belongs to. In SP there are enough commands (luckily) to never really permanently loose stuff

Jesus, what a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. They need to fix this before half their playerbase loses their SP saves.

Ok backup restored and everything back the way it was pre-Extinction.
But I really don't want to take the chance of playing Extinction like this. It will use the Island character and as long as you don't create a new one it SHOULD not mess up ownerships of Island , but my worry is what will happen the day they fix it. Ten to 1 you will then have to create a new Extinction character ( as the Island one won't be able to be used once fixed ) and that will cause another ownership mess in Extinction then.

I wonder if one actually upload and transfer your Island character to Extinction if that will make you safe ? That way you will also play with your Island character , but in theory the day the fix comes it SHOULD not force you to create a new Extinction character as you are playing with a transfered character that should be allowed to continue playing there ?
But that's in theory. Who knows what will actually happen. Might even loose the whole map when they fix the save destination folder.

I was nervous during this entire update so I saved my Saved folder before downloading the new DLC and again once the download completed. I then noticed the same, "your character will be destroyed" message and said OK. Played a bit of Extinction, logged out, and went back to the Island. I had to respawn in a random location as none of my beds were found anywhere. Restored the backup, this time chose to keep the same player and entered Extinction anew. It is nice not having to learn everything over again or build up health, speed, etc. But at least I can go back and forth between the two maps. I understand that I should be able to bring stuff and tames back with me to the Island, just not in the other direction. Haven't tried this yet though. I did notice that the Extinction.ark was stored in SavedArksLocal and not its own Extinction folder--which is the core of the problem.

SP you can choose to allow everything (character, items, dinos) to transfer both ways.

It's just official servers that only allow characters into Extinction. And unofficial that choose to do this.

Ark has a new PC Bug reporting system on survivetheark.com. I would suggest more SP mode bug reports so they know how much this mode is used.

I still choose LAN over SP mode. Too many bugs.

Yep , and this is actually a quick and easy fix. They just need to change the save path for Exctinction. But who knows how long we will have to wait for WC to adress this.
