Do i have to download the dlc when i didn't buy it?
Ark now uses 100000 MB of my harddrive and it just started downloading 40000 MB more. Is there an option where i can just start the game?

IT is because you still get access to all the new items and dinos, if someone mods in where you can see and play with extinction items on the island the assets are already there.

11gb is small compared to the entire expansion.

If this bothers you i hope to god you never play Dark and Light. . .

What i also don't understand is why all the other dlc's need to be downloaded manually except for this one

You need to download the expansion because the assets it brings will end up on all maps eventually.

I wouldn't complain because 11 GB is nothing for me, but i've been downloading since 11am. I'm currently at the third download today, this one is 29 GB

OP. Do you not understand that people from other maps can transfer over with that stuff from the dlc? Or that you can actually spawn everything from the dlc with just the base game? That stuff needs to be in the base game in order for the game to spazz out if someone brought dlc items or tames over to another map
Let's say you and bob play on a cluster map. Bob has all the dlc but you don't. Bob decides that he wants to go play on extinction and bring some stuff over to the island. Bob can bring stuff over because the base game can call those items and not cause problems or crashes. If it was the case of the dlc items and tames not downloaded and patched into the base game, you will crash and have problems if he heads to the island with the dlc stuff

Remember there are alot of new to ARK players with free weekend, so maybe they do no totally understand how the game works, it is not like the new to ARK players understand how the expansions or character/dino/item Downloads work.

Think of it this way. Long term the only part of the dlc you actually have to pay for is the map. The difference between the update you’re getting now and the total size of the paid dlc tells you about how big the map itself is. The rest is being given to you free and can be accessed from either mods or acquiring from other players.

I know that you can transfer creatures/items to other maps, we started on SE but decided to switch to island and transferred stuff like the rock element to our map. My friend also transferred some ugly dog from aberration, which i accidentally killed, to our island map. I don't own the Aberration DLC and i haven't downloaded the map

You can transfer dinos and items yes. You have to think about when people play on official servers as well. They have to have data of all the creatures and items that are from dlc, even the ones they don't play or don't have. It's for the chance of you meeting someone who has those items or creatures. If you didn't either the game craps out or all you see is white blocks

Sorry El Chapo, I'm sure the update is required. This is 2018 and I have 20 TB on my gaming PC, just saying. My multiple ark servers + mods use about 200 gb.
