Tranq arrow (cross bow) vs darts?
Which one is beter for taming as when a did a calculation using the sats on the wiki the arrows did 3,600 tarpor/ minute and darts did 3,000 tarpor/ minute.
So is it worth using darts over arrows despite this or have I made a caclation error?
Method uses (60/Reload time)*total tarpor.

Darts do less damage and they are better

Darts are better. Some dinos will die if you try to knock them off with crossbow. The crossbow do too much damage.

I use crossbow only if i want to tame underwater.

what about didos that are not killed by arrows?

From my experience crossbows have a higher rate of fire and if you get one with a decent quality you'll probably knocked out whatever it is you're trying to knock out a lot faster than if you're sitting there trying to reload that rifle the sole exception being if you have access to shock darts, those are the way to go. But if all you have is standard darts vs. Tranq arrows, everybody I know prefers the crossbow in that situation.

yes you shoot faster but as said before you apply much more damages. faster shots will then lead too even bigger dps + you don't take benefits from the overtime applied torpor: therefor you have a higher probability to kill your tame/leave it low health so hard to defend etc...

rifle may seem boring but reload time allows you to take benefit from the torpor dot and does way less damages while doing more torpor (specially with dot) to prevent unexpected/unwanted outcomes.

you can use both in facts, but some species just have too low health to be tamed by crossbow, especially little ones.

Arrows do more damage than Darts however Arrows reload faster than Darts

It really depends on what you are taming.
Overall Darts are more effective on most land creatures specially creatures with low health stats like the Gallimimus which will die super fast if tranq Arrows are used on it.

Creatures with high torpor loss and HP are far easier to knock out with Arrows though due to the faster reload speed.. the most obvious example of that is the Giga.

The torpor over time stacks.

depends of the taming, high lvl dire bears will should died with arrows.

The faster reload time of a crossbow is pointless when you factor in the damage over time component of the tranqs. You should wait for the DOTs to take affect so firing tranq arrows as fast as you can defeats the purpose of the DOT. The darts kind of force you to wait longer which is better for those with itchy trigger fingers.

The solution with crossbows is to fire at maximum range. What is maximum range? That you have to learn with experience.

"A second arrow hitting the target will not override the torpor-over-time effect of the first arrow, the effects of multiple arrows will instead stack. That means it's not necessary to wait in between shots to gain the maximum torpor."

Both a good xbow and a good longneck has there uses, you should probably have both.

arrows are cheaper, darts leave the animal in better shape.

for most tames, arrows do the job and result in a cheaper tame then darts without much difference in time spent tranqing the animal.

darts shine vs animals with either low health or that you can't really trap.
