Ragnarok Viking Bay Beaches

Everyone, even seasoned players, starting out on a Viking Bay beach should spawn in with three things already loaded into their inventory:

1. A primitive shotgun
2. 30 rounds of shotgun ammo
3. A note explaining the Ichthyornis.

Last night, I had just gotten the first low level Ptera, and coming back burdened from my first obsidian run I was landing on a rock on the beach for stamina. One of those theives was on the ground nearby and I didn't see him. It took off from the ground and started attacking me.

By the time the "issue" was over, my Ptera was passed out from no stamina, I had killed 3 of those flying bastards, 4 med to high level compies, a couple of Dilos, I had run down 2 Pegos, my inventory was mostly missing and everything dropped had pretty much despawned. It was an intense 6 to 8 minutes.

Today I am going to the swamp for Species X

Spawning Ichthyornis in squads of 3 or 4 is just mean.

They aren't so bad of you play without stack mods. Their hit box is awful.


But imagine playing with a stack mod and losing 10,000 meat or narq in one theft. Or if you get swarmed and lose tons of stuff.

Don't use stack mods. Me + 20 obsidian was the limit that Ptera could handle and still make any air speed over the ground. It is a fine balance, weight vs speed vs stamina to reach next safe landing spot.

I just turn them off for my private game. And typically choose unofficial servers that reduce their spawn rates.

The last couple of months I had been playing The Island without Ichthyornis, Pegos, Microraptors, Gigas, Titans and with reduced Theri & Alpha spawns. Basically all the nuisance dinos.
Decided to make a fresh start on Ragnarok with all dinos present. There are a ton of ichthyornis on those beaches... a squad seems to spawn in about every 50 to 100 yards. I empty my inventory and go clear them out and 20 minutes later they're back, again slowly moving down the beach toward my hut. I don't want to build extra structures to kill their spawns, but this is ridiculous. Gonna take the Ptera and scout for a location farther from the beach.... but not until I tame a second Ptera to rescue the first when "things" happen. Have to harvest a bunch more turtles for the keratin for the saddle first. But, I did get the obsidian last night so I can make scissors and start saving hair for fur armor!

1-2 shots to the head with an arrow from a regular bow or one thrown spear = dead.

Evidently if you're sh*t, you can just use a bola.

Incredible....Those bird are not even a challenge, why crying / complaining about them?

Stop crying like baby and learn how to play a video game. You lose lots more stuff when big dino kill you and you can't find back your gear, so losing 1 or 2 random items from your inventory if you did not saw this little bird is not even close to be a problem.

If this game is too hard for you, go play something else or play solo and put yourself godmode
