How to tame Pteranodon without ragnarok?
How do you tame Pteranodons on The Island or whatever other map if you don't have access to ovi nearby? I'm wondering this as a solo player in early game.

Solo player early in the game............name is 123, ok sure.
I play on and off a lot, so I know battlemetrics shinanigans.

Pteranadon ? Think i have always just used regular raw meat for them, weird that the OP is having taming issues with Ptera's, Bola and club with some narco berries and raw meat is all you really need they are basic tame.
It just takes so long to tame a ptera, which is why I was looking for "speedrun" like solo early game tips.

Prime meat + Bolas = Profit, you don't need an outstanding one right off the bat.
How does one get easy early prime meat when doing a fresh start?

Ovis can spawn in various places on the island but:

1. They share spawn nodes with other creatures.
2. Because they die fast to predators, they can be missed via point 1 too.

As for taming you've 2 alternative options.

1. Make kibble
2. Use prime meat
How does one get easy early prime meat when doing a fresh start?
Also for kibble vegetables require at least 1 real life day to grow. So isn't kibble not really feasible?
I've found that along the western beaches I've found some sarcos, and so long as you are on land and keep your distance, they are actually pretty simple to kill because they are so slow on land. Create a ranged weapon, preferably a bow, and just shoot it in the face from a distance. You could also get a pack of high level dilos, preferably with high health more than anything, and send them to swarm the sarco. I often get prime meat this way.

For one a "fresh start" isnt meant to be getting a ptera to begin with. So lets dispense with that sort of line of thinking.

Stego's can drop prime in small quantities. Sarco's too If you cant kill either, then you're probably not really at the point to be bothering worrying about a ptera either to be honest.

Also if you are wince worthily playing default taming settings, keep in mind the taming times between use of a kibble, mutton, prime meat and prime fish meat vary only 20-40min respectively.. Prime fish also is easy enough if you kill salmon then harvest with a sickle. Effectivenes% though have a more dramatic differentiation between them with none being 100% for say a 150 ptera according to dododex.

I bet metal tools are a must have too. I found stone tools give next to no prime.

If you're so new that you're still working on stone tools then you're being silly trying for a ptera. You cant even saddle one to ride until level 38... far after metal tool learning.

All in all you're jumping a bit.

not necessarily. i have tamed stuff way before i could saddle them just for their usefulness.
last time i played i logged on saw a white drop that had a bow and a few narcs. a 95 raptor was nearby i used a raided building as cover and tamed it. I was basically lvl 6 with a lvl 95 raptor pet.

ive tamed beavers with narcs+biotoxin and put them on wander + whistle to use them to farm mass amounts of wood long before i could make a saddle for them.Doed will do the same thing without the wander part.

ptera early on makes a decent defender even if you can't ride it.

Right and not disagreeing with that path up the mountain so to speak but I think a more compelling argument to this though is again its not exactly a starting point for most new players to do and the op's presumed intention for a ptera for purposes other than a guard dog(ie to ride).
