How to tame Pteranodon without ragnarok?

How do you tame Pteranodons on The Island or whatever other map if you don't have access to ovi nearby? I'm wondering this as a solo player in early game.

Pteras are on every map except Aberration... Why do you bring up oviraptor? It's not required for taming...

Right the ovis! Mutton! I'm on the same page now.

Ovis are on the island too... Around the mountain for blue obelisk. Otherwise raw prime or kibble like normal.

Ovis can spawn in various places on the island but:

1. They share spawn nodes with other creatures.
2. Because they die fast to predators, they can be missed via point 1 too.



As for taming you've 2 alternative options.

1. Make kibble
2. Use prime meat

Pteranadon ? Think i have always just used regular raw meat for them, weird that the OP is having taming issues with Ptera's, Bola and club with some narco berries and raw meat is all you really need they are basic tame.

It just takes so long to tame a ptera, which is why I was looking for "speedrun" like solo early game tips.

How does one get easy early prime meat when doing a fresh start?
Also for kibble vegetables require at least 1 real life day to grow. So isn't kibble not really feasible?

Plenty of "easy" kills, like snakes, that give prime meat.
The question is, are they going to be close to where your taming said ptera.

Also you can tame a low level seagul and use that to get prime from other creatures like dodo's if im not mistaken. Its not a great source of prime, but it works, people tend to forget how usefull this bird can be.

The thing is, by the time you managed any of the above, your tame was most likely already up with regular meat anyways.

Look for Ovis (sheep) and kill them, the raw mutton is very good for taming, if you roast it it will keep fresh longer

there are many ways..i just tamed one last night with my first suggestion.

way #1
bola+tranq arrow+biotoxin(easy to find on island)
no biotoxin..narcoberrys or narcotics

Sometimes if im short on narcs its cheaper to let it wake up a few times and bola+tranq then retrieve your bola.then get ur prime and bola traq+feed.The food stays lowered even after they wake up.

sources of prime...
#1. alpha raptors..lead to water and face shot them to death to get a ton of prime
#2 alpha carnos..#2 cuz raptors much easier and faster to kill..but same strat
#3 Paracers- give out 1-5 prime each
#4 snakes- give out 1-3 prime each
#5 argentavis- 0-2 prime each
#6 Leedsichthys- go up to them and scrape for free prime without agro...but you will have to wait in between scrapes.**--nvm..forgot this one only good for prime FISH meat.
#7 penguins- 1-4prime each...however they are likely too damn far from anything worth taming.

if you are lucky you get moschops and harvest prime from #1-#5 in much higher amounts.

You can also tame a rex to harvest prime from #1-#5 in slightly better amounts.

its always best to use ovis, but when you cant like on the island prime is pretty good way to go.

I bet metal tools are a must have too. I found stone tools give next to no prime.

Freshly hatched babies give good amounts of prime; they don't even need to have good breeding stock for parents. You can incubate Dodo (or other low tier quick tame) fertilized eggs down to almost ready to hatch, and then pop them out next to a torch while you perform the prime meat tame.

a metal pick isn't exactly hard to make. half the time i find someones raided base and make myself a set of metal tools right away.

if a metal pick is your worry, you probably have to worry about how to get enough chittin for a saddle.
