Ark Best Expansion?

I just tried playing Abberation with a friend cuz I had heard that it is one of the best maps/ DLC made for the game. But honestly, we really haven't been enjoying it. There are so many problems we have with it. No flying creatures, no oceans or real bodies of water, the f***ing hallucination mushrooms everywhere, the fu** fest of crab vs Spinos in the rivers, the annoying ass earthquakes, the verticality that is cool but also really limits your ability to travel with your favorite dinos (unless its a Drake).

I've heard that Scorched Earth is fun and challenging, which is what we plan on trying next. And I've heard that no one really likes Extinction.

As for the maps, we tried the newest one that starts with a V but found it to be pretty lack luster. I think the saying "wide as an ocean and deep as a puddle" fits it nicely. Ragnarok we have heard nothing but the upmost praise for and the Center is apparently pretty cool, too, esp before Ragnarok came out.

What are your guy's opinions on all this?

Aberration.... once you know it... is very easy to navigate and advance...

But in the order of Lore maps and therefor 'difficulty'... it is the 3rd map.

TheIsland, Scorched Earth, Aberration, Extinction..... Genesis 1 & 2

Any of the other 3 maps (Center, Ragnarok, Valguero), are not Lore maps... they were created by modders and bought by Wc to make them official.... so they are 'easier'

Should be noted... that the 'no flyers' on aberration is avoidable on many unofficals and indeed, in SP/Non-Dedicated.

Hi,

Aberration was one of my favorite map, but it's not a very simple one when you begin with a new character. Plus if you go to an Obelisk during the day you are fried like a sausage and your tamed dinos too... and the wings, ahhh the wingsssss, soooo cool, but not when you crashes on the floor surrounded with aggros lol

After having played more than 800 hours, on all the maps, I understand now why so much players come back to The Island, Valguero is nice too.

Concerning Exctinction, you have here technology, contaminated creatures (lol when the Pteranodons and the trikes become aggro !), this map is not my favorite one, just the space capsules falling on the floor challenge is cool (only the blue ones with 10.000HP, because the red, yellow and purple ones, oh la la !).

Why don't you buy the Season Pass to have all the DLCs ? search for a good low price on the net, you will find it for sure ;)

You're asking subjective questions so answers will vary. Personally I dont care for aberration whilst others do. As for your complaints of flying etc, if you play on many different unofficial servers, flying is enabled on aberration. If you're playing on official servers then your experiences will be much more limited. Hence the majority of the players play on unofficial servers.

Also keep in mind if you play on unofficial servers there are lots of unofficial maps to also choose from made by the mod community(keep in mind valguero, ragnarok and center maps were previously modded content then bought by wildcard and makers hired.)

Yeah that's why I asked for an opinion. And I guess I'm asking for opinions basing on if someone is renting there own server to play with a group of friends, which is what we are doing. Public servers in Ark are dead :/

Scorched Earth is the best expansion on the grounds of being the only one that isn't ♥♥♥♥.

I like the idea behind Wildcard adding expansions, but the expansions themselves are trash.

For me the best expansion is Aberration shortly followed by scorched earth.

im not saying discount them as DLC....

Im just saying take into account that they are not designed with 'difficulty' in mind... they were made to be landscapes and nothing more... whereas WC DLC were built around the game mechanics/Lore.

I tend to favour the Island out of all the maps... but a playthrough of all WC Maps is a blast.

Abberation is a great map, but it's definitely a different play style from the previous maps. If you don't like it I wouldn't sweat it, there are tons of other maps out there in addition to the expansion maps. Scorched Earth is not a bad map, it's a bit small though and it's not really as desert survival oriented as you'd think. Extinction isn't really that great imo. Half of the map is practically useless and the Tek augmented creatures are over powered. Center is a good map, lots of hidden pockets. Rag is rag, nothing wrong with it but it's over hyped. It's a very easy map to play on and it was the first map to include dlc assests without having to pay for the expansion maps. That's why players praise it so much. If you don't mind mod maps, the crystal ilse beta map is also a great map.
