Ark Freezes and Locks Up Causing Me To Restart My Computer
Once I load into any server after about 5 seconds my ARK completely locks up and freezes and I have to restart my computer to close it because there is no other way to get passed it. Sometimes I can play for 30-45 minutes and my game locks up and freezes causing me to force shut down my computer again. When playing the game I run on about 30-60 fps all high settings, don't have many immense fps drops. I have tried many possible solutions.

-sm4 -nomansky -USEALLAVAILABLECORES -d3d10 ( I have this in launch options, does not help )

Ark actually runs worse with all available cores.

same problem here, before winter update i could run all on epic, but now, the island map is crashing my computer in the same manner as yours.I think it's a island cluster bug with mine, because it is always on the same maploading spot with me :(

the most anoying thing is, there is no error massage or anything to work with :S just restart the computer and thats it :S

Though I have no evidence for it, personally this issue happened after the first extinction update (it was releasead) on every map BUT Extinction. What map are you guys playing on?

(A fix is to use task manager, set it to always be on top. Do this when out of the game). When your game freezes press the windows button and in search type task manager. Then open it and it should stay on top of any other windows you have open (i.e. ARK). Click on "shootergame" (ARK) and press end task. This SHOULD force ARK to close down and hopefully will save you from shutting down/restarting your pc. Then, if you want, just start ARK up again.

Hope this helps anyone who doesn't want to go through the process of restarting their system :-)

Yeah that trick, i use it now because resetting a computer 4 dosen times gets old :S
I'm playing on the island map myself, just tested if it was a problem with clusters, nope now i can fly across the hole map.Don't know what the issue is anymore, haven't played are in a while so yeah maybe the problems acure after the extinction DLC. Wildcard needs to fix a lot of things, but random crashed need to be fixed also the optimisation needs to done asap.

Using many of those launch parameters is pointless if not making you prone to issues as some no longer are relevant from my understanding.

Secondly, you're stating what your rig is but it would be more helpful to have accurate information in this department as far as what ----steam---- is detecting you're using for your rig.

That said go to steam's help menu, click "system information" and then copy paste that information here as it is more detailed and may reveal discrepancies.

Additionally, list all mods you may be using, 3rd party programs such as graphic enhancers or virus checkers, and perhaps a screen shot of the in game vid quality settings/performance you have.

Hey all, I've been having the same issue ever since I got ark (just after extinction came out)

I can be doing anything from walking around, mid combat, diving, flying, standing around doing nothing, and just completely randomly my entire computer will lock up, no alt-tab, no alt-ctrl-delete, not even the numlock light will switch, the only response I can get is hitting the restart button.

It happens on modded AND vanilla, happens on any and all maps, there's just no reliable or repeatable cause, it just randomly STOPS, I've tried running at max graphics and min graphics, dropping sky quality to minimum SEEMS to help but it doesn't stop it altogether.

This is all the info steam has on my system:

Number one cause of computers freezing up is overheating. I'd check that first. Even if "it only happens with Ark". Exit any other software that's running in the background (noticed 2 monitor setup).

And necroing several posts to get help isn't the greatest way to get help...

Take the cover off your PC and look at the fans... caked in dust? Bingo! Clean em. Not spinning at all? Time for new ones...

I permanently have the side off my computer, I cleaned out the heat sinks and after a restart nothing else is running.

I'll try cleaning it again and see if that makes a difference but somehow I doubt it.

I only necro'd this one because it seemed to be the latest one I could find.

Have you tried updating those 2 year old drivers?
Driver Date: 2 10 2017

They have the latest drivers for them, only alternative would be to upgrade the devices themselves but I'm not sure which one would need upgraded.

Does everyone that has this issue have an AMD card?
CAPT40 May 30, 2019 @ 7:01pm
I haven't been on ARK in months, and have never had this issue until now. I have 2 GTX-980 water-cooled GPUs and tried turning everything to low quality. It's not the hardware, it's not firmware, it's not too hot. I tried on an official server to rule out any and all mods as well. I love ARK when it works, but I hate how unstable ARK can be and often is.
My game is also occasionally freezing, and I have to restart the computer as well. I don't remember this happening before except when sometimes going into caves. Now it seems random. I've learned to make sure to close the game if single player or nondedicated hosting to save progress just in case.
