How do you get so many resources?
Hi, sorry for making so many of these help posts, Hopefully I wont need to make too many more.
Ive decided that I want to build walls to protect me, but ive made like 10% of 1 side and im already out of rocks for the general area. On top of that im seeing stuff like the cannon needs 900 metal bars! What!? Is there something im missing here!? I get like 2 metal ore per boulder...

you can get a ton of resources using tames. the stack sizes are really brutal tho

singleplayer? Simply up your harvest rate! And as mentioned use dinos for harvesting resources...different dino are specialized in harvesting different resources
Ancient Dec 30, 2018 @ 1:56pm
Cannons are end-game, used for taming titanosaurs, so it's meant to be something only a large, advanced and organized tribe can do. It should be tough or every lone wolf on the server could be raiding bases with a titano.

Also, what Anndy said. Use a quetzl to fly your ankylo around to farm it and you can get a lot more metal.

If this is SP or your own dedi, then you can increase harvesting amount and resource respawn rates to your liking.

Cannons are not really used for anything other than taming Titans, which are also temporary tames that are mostly for PvP (you can make them permanent tames in single player actually).

I'd honestly make the harvesting rates be 4x or 3x, that's my ideal spot. The reason it's not like that by default is because the game assumes you to be in a tribe that has people helping out with harvesting.

The dinos you want for harvesting are as follows...

For wood... Beavers/Thorny Dragons -> Mammoth (Therizino are also an option, but they don't have wood weight reduction like the others).

For stone... only Doedicurus can harvest stone (don't bother using rock elementals). It's worth mentioning that Doeds can harvest stone while on wander, and they hardly die as they'll shield themselves, making threats ignore the doed.

For Metal... Ankylo or Pickaxe wielding Mantis (Anky is more reliable due to it being an easier tame and having more weight).

For thatch, you're better off using a grinder, but in the case you don't have a grinder... it'd be Deer -> Bronto.

Anglers are the only ones that can farm pearls.

You also should get an Argentavis (and Quetz) for farming as Argentavis also have weight reduction on numerous of items, and can also hold Anky and Doed. Quetz has higher weight and are slightly faster than argies, but harder to tame and breed.

Getting an Ankylo, a Doedi and a Beaver will make you believe in miracles.

thanks for the replies everyone. Im seeing taming as the answer however Ive never seen or heard of these dinos before. I tried to go exploring but immediately got jumped by a 5-pack of raptors and am struggling just to survive for 5 minutes now as theyre outside my base. If only I had a wall built.... lol. Im in SP since battleye ♥♥♥♥♥ itself and blue screens in ark so unfortunately no big tribe to help me :( I do already have a resource multiplier of 1.5 but I will definately boost the respawn timer, didnt see it before, I'll check it next time I launch ark.

i have a resource multiplier of 400 in my Singleplayer game :D

If the raptors are causing troubles, get yourself a raptor army. The saddles give armor, so tamed raptors have a massive advantage against wild ones.

Here's what I would do, tame a ptero first, and make sure your lvl is high enough to make argentavis saddle. Once you have the argentavis saddle, just fly to the mountains where tons of argentavis are there, KO one there and then ride it. They're painfully slow, but their weight is awesome and they can carry ankylo and Doed.

Once you get an argy, find a wild ankylo, doed, and beaver/thorny dragon. Just pick them up with your new bird and drop them in a safe spot for you to KO them. Doed and Anky are easy tames, but time consuming if you don't have kibbles (which are dilo kibbles). Beavers are a bit difficult to tame as they're narcotic addicts. Of course, you can skip straight to Mammoths, which are much better than beavers for wood farming, they just can't be carried by argentavis (but quetz can!)

You should try to get yourself some easy defensive tames early on. Carbonemys, Trike, are fairly good.

Also for early on in the game, depending on the map but definitely on the Island, I cannot praise enough the concept of a nicely designed fully stocked taming raft. I have one that has an interior of about 3x3 with all the important equipment (forge, smithy, cooling bin, storage chest, 2x beds, fireplace, mortar/pestle) and then a 3x3 area with 2 dino gates and a bunch of walls/windows. You can use sloped roof sections over your interior shelter to get the dino to chase you up and fall into the taming pen, and then run out a human-sized door. Then you can shoot through the windows or from the top of the sloped roof with tranq arrows and it's really easy to tame things smaller than a stego. Trikes, Doeds, Ankys, etc.

One thing you can try is to take your raft over to herbivore island (again, if on the Island map) which is all the way in the SE part of the map. You will find metal nodes. All the animals on the island are herbis so non-violent. You can easily tame up some nice things like a Trike and an Anky or two. And then you can use them to harvest. And the trikes will defend you against things like raptors. Trikes are not powerful but they are very tanky in the early game.

However, with rafts, I recommend getting one of the mods that de-powers or de-aggros the Leedsichthys, or else you could see your powerful taming raft sunk ignominiously by them.
Bullwinkle Dec 30, 2018 @ 7:12pm
I play single player, and I reduce Leeds spawns by 99%. Otherwise rafts are nearly worthless.
Scrapper-Lock Dec 30, 2018 @ 7:23pm
You can do that or else use a mod. I use one called "Moby-d/i/c/k/less" (without the slashes) which leaves them in but makes them docile toward rafts unless you aggress them.
Spiketail_Drake Dec 31, 2018 @ 2:06am
Don't mine/gather by hand, use dinosaurs for that! Doedicurus for stone, Ankylosaurus for metal/crystal, Mammoth/Thorny Dragon/Castoroides for wood, Megaloceros (male) for thatch.

For the Doedic, get a low level one, tell it to go near a rock and it will autogather.

Also, take advantage of dinos which have a weight reduction bonus on resources. List : https://ark.gamepedia.com/Weight_Reduction
ATM_Reaper Dec 31, 2018 @ 4:37am
Use this to find out lots of ark info, it will also give you resource and spawn maps etc.
