The devs don't want the winter event to get out of hand, so they made gachaclaus to slow things down. Gachas have some internal energy source, call it Holiday Energy. They use this to transform coal or mistletoe into cool stuff. When gachaclaus first spawns, he has no energy. It builds up over time. So if you spawn one in and try to give it mistletoe immediately, you won't get anything. Gachaclaus also needs more energy to make the really cool stuff, so if you want ascendant stuff, you need to wait. If you feed him mistletoe rapid-fire one after another after another after another, you'll stop getting ascendant because his Holiday Energy doesn't get a chance to recharge. I'm also thinking making stuff from coal increases his energy level a little, so maybe feeding him a stack of 10 coal could actually help if his energy level is low. And when his Holiday Energy is maxed, then giving him more than one mistletoe might help. And if a cheater comes along and he makes way too many cool things too quickly, his transforming powers go into hibernation.
I'd love if someone did some more testing on this. I'm sure parts of it are wrong. I'm really surprised to see I can't find any methodical testing of this stuff.
I kept feeding one mistletoe and one coal, but after the first attempt the best i'm getting is journeyman items, but it's not guaranteed . Sometimes i holiday items only, sometimes i get nothing. Sometime i get one or two drops, sometimes i get nothing. I'll keep testing.
One thing I can definitely confirm is that a level 8 Gachaclaus gave me a Mastercraft Assault Rifle in exchange for 1 mistletoe while he was touching my tamed Argent on Single Player, with a level 70 toon. So it would appear that 1 mistletoe is enough for great stuff and it is OK if one (maybe more) tamed dino is very close by. At least in SP at level 70.
Still needing to use console to summon the claus in, as he doesn't seem to spawn, no matter how clean I keep the beaches. Kill everything in sight and parasaurs spawn, but no claus.
