the easy water cave in the island is famous for giving you all kinds of bps of high quality.
Truth be told I do not recommend the swamp cave unless you have a good (400%+ or so? I used a 700%) longneck rifle, a couple masks, excellent (500+ armor per piece) flak, a gasmask, and you can afford to lose everything. Oh and a good supply of cactus broth and bug repellant and focal chile. Oh and stimberries/stimulants to manage torpor. Oh and probably a good melee weapon too for when you start getting overwhelmed...and a number of grapple hooks
WEll, you could try rushing it with just cactus, repellant, and scuba gear with ghille boots and focal chile, but you'd better be able to afford to replace all that repeatedly just in case.
Bugs and snakes are relatively fragile and do relatively little damage compared to the absurd creatuers in the Ice cave, and there's not exactly anything there that will flat-out stunlock you with no save (unlike the evil deathbadgers), but there are STILL fairly high level bugs and can STILL take you out even if you have amazing (1000+ armor per piece) flak or if you forget to munch your stims.
Arthroplueras take a TON of damage from a good logneck shot so they'll die in one hit usually IF your logneck is good enoug; these are likely your biggest threat becuase of their insane antiarmor abilities. If you can kill them in one hit the others will not aggro on you when you shoot (it's a quirk of how ark handles agro); anything else that swarms you you can melee in a pinch but not these guys because they do reflect damage against melee.
alternatively mix a frog and logneck rifles, i guess. Frog for aoe and gathering cementing paste, longneck for damage.
It's probably better IF you already have some decent gear, or at the very least frogs for dayz. If you're just starting out...probably not. I'ts supposed to have a better quality within the red drop range, so it's probably a good place to hit if you're looking to get some good fur armor to prep for the ice cave, but not so good if you're, as you said, still in the early game because you'll die too much.
