How do I get it off the Aberration map? I tried goofing with lots of stuff on various maps (beacons really) to try and transfer stuff around, but I haven't figured it out yet. I've looked up a few things and read stuff, but I'm not following.

Stand next to those weird bulb plants you find all over the map, they will spit out seeds every 1 minute.

Yep, I got around 15. Figured I should build a house around it.

How do you get items (any map) into another map? Or characters, for that matter? Do you need the obelisks (guessing that's like the 3 giant tower things on TheCenter) or can you do it with a supply drop (beacon with a box under it) or with whatever it is on Aberration that has a 'charge'?

if you are playing a solo game like me, you need to place all the stuff you want to transfer into the transmitter, or obelisk.
Don't forget to empty your character including your armour and upload your character.

now you get a screen where you can choose your character or make a new one, do not spawn your character or else you will just get back to your old map.

Instead Alt-Tab out and close the application on the task bar, alt-F4 will work too.
Start the game back up and choose the map you want to play, click on your character and spawn in the new map, get to an obelisk and grab your stuff.

You don't have to manually end the task like that. Just click on the screen, then you can hit ESC and exit to Main Menu, go straight into another map.

On a server you can transfer through loot crates when they appear, in single player you can't. You'll have to go to the surface and use an obelisk terminal, or into the radiation zone and use the boss terminal.

Easy way to transfer in Aberration SP = get a transmitter, either legit or via cheats, you really dont want to go the radiation zone for that nor to surface tbh.

Can I just send items, and not the character, so the character gets deleted but the items don't, and a character in multiplayer (with a friend) can grab the other server's items?

He doesn't have all the expansions and I do, but I'd like to grow the neat plants so our greenhouse looks cooler.

That depends. If it is official or a clustered server, then no. If it is a non-clustered server, make sure item downloads are enabled.

Edit: To transfer items once you get to a terminal/obelisk, make sure you are placing them under the item tab and not the tribute tab.
