I've got 12 beavers in a pen.. no dams?
I've left redering distance many times. over the course of an hour I've got nothing. Do they need to be near their original spawn point or something?

You have to build the pen where the beavers spawn. Make sure your pen is large enough to house the beavers AND the dams. A 2 X 5 or a 3 X 4 is big enough for 2 beavers + room for dams. It will also allow you to land yopur bird inside the pen for protection from the other wild beavers durring collection. Use fence foundations and build 1 wall high with a doorway for yourself. Drop the wild beavers into the pen, then clear out all the dams in the area. Wait a while and the dams will appear inside the pen.

I suggest building 2 pens. That way you can use an Argie to pick up the wild beavers from the pen with dams and drop them into the second empty pen. Then harvest the first pen in safety.

Note that raptors and carnos will occassionally kill the beavers in the pens. Just pick up and drop the new wild beavers that will have spawned in the area to keep your pens in operation.

Edit: Oh, and ubild enough pens to house ALL the beavers that spawn in that area. That way there will be zero wild beavers that will spawn outside your pens and, therefore, ALL the dams will spawn inside your pens.

If they are tamed, they don't build dams

If they are near your base, they don't build dams

They are neither... However.. wouldn't a pen itself count as a base, as it's made form placeable objects?

Pretty sure anything that prevents spawn counts as a base. You could make a large storage crates wall probably...

The folks i've seen pull this off generally leave the beavers in a large area thats closed in from a distance, i've seen the beavers build dams there, but the farmers tell me the beavers will despawn eventually and you just put more in while youre online.

But i think the trick to it (if it still works) is a area so large there is really no structure near them.

Nooblets sciences it up for you. two year old video though I doubt anything much has changed since then. Foundations/pillars stop spawns, other stuff should be okay spikes, fence foundations. From my own experience the best way to deal with beavers is to leave them alone, let them build dams naturally, which is the conclusion Nooblets came to aswell.

what you do is grab them and drop them all in the same spawning pond. keep doing that and you will have more beaver dams than youll know what to do with. untamed wild beavers. did this on the valhalla map and worked great
