Probably element, element shards, or element dust.

They do not seem to eat unless you force them too, we keep ours 'uploaded' cause unlike most 'creatures' who use 10% food when the area goes into stasis (no one in render range) Meks seem to use TONS of food when no one is around.

mine would eat element dust by itself without a problem, didnt notice insane dust consumption either

Yes, However I put an ascendant level Enforcer into a cryopod and when I released it, it came out level 1 and then a carno killed it.
