Creature Size
Hello, does anyone know how big the creatures, like the giganotosaurus, are in ark? If there is a way to determine precise legnth or if such information about creatures is already known, please let me know, thank you,

Just look it up? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giganotosaurus

I know they've taken a lot of artistic liberty, but at least they are closish.

Haha... no. Using real world data won't help you with determining the sizes of many creatures in Ark, ESPECIALLY the Giganotosaurus. Estimations put an actual Giganotosaurus's average size to be similar to that of the Tyrannosaurus Rex, however Ark's Giganotos are pretty much twice as big as Ark's Rexes in all dimensions.

To the OP:
I'm sorry to say, but I don't think anyone's actually explored getting exact measurements of Ark's many creatures. Though some have done measurements of their sizes compared to walls, for the purposes of storing them.

The only actual help I can give, is that some people have done images comparing the sizes of all of Ark's creatures, though even then some of the sizes seem inaccurate on those charts.

Yeah, most of the dinos in Ark are much much bigger than they should be in real life. Some of them are the correct size (like megalodons, parasaur, pachy, etc.), whereas most of them are just oversized...like gigas, mosy, etc.

Just like Jurassic Park, dinos are made bigger as it'd be more thrilling to the audience.

Ah, that's unfortunate. Another thing I've noticed is that creatures in ARK seem much smaller than they actually are. For example megalodon looks as big as Bruce from Jaws but when according to this

it's 52 feet long. It's the same with other creatures. Anyone have any idea why that is?

Anyway if we can't figure out its size what would your estimates be? We know the rex is bigger than a real rex, and a large rex would be 40 feet long, maybe making Ark's 60 feet long. The giganotosaurus seems to be double that, so I'd guess 120 feet long maybe.

You could probably use the 3D models in the dev kit to get this kind of information? I don't think anyone has collected/organized/posted that information anywhere yet though.

You may also find these useful:

Each creature has a "drag weight" stat that is associated with their size. The correlation between size and drag weight isn't perfect, but with the exception of a few creatures that have weird drag weights, it would give you a rough idea of which creatures are bigger than others. This information is listed on the gamepedia wiki. https://ark.gamepedia.com/Drag_Weight

The wiki also has an image someone made showing a visual size comparison of most creatures from The Island map. I'm not sure how accurate it is, a few of the creatures don't quite seem correct to me, but I think it's approximately close? Not sure if the person who uploaded it might have more info one what data was used to create it. https://ark.gamepedia.com/File:Size_Comparison_June.jpg

I recall that there is also some kind of "mass" stat for each creature. (I don't remember if that's actually what it was called, but I saw it in the devkit and the tooltip said something about how that stat is used for physics calculations. I'm guessing it applies for things like when animals are getting knocked around by each others' attacks.) I don't think anyone has collected this information and posted anywhere, unfortunately.

Yeah it is weird but when you look at things in ark in first person mode, everything looks smaller. Running around looking at triceratops, carnos and such, they all seem like they are just a bit larger than you, then you go to third person and stand close to them, you realize how big the difference is.

My guess is it is some sort of optical illusion caused by some weird graphics programming or something.
