Hence why we now have the moving storage boxes, the long-jump+slow-fall whatever-it's-called, and mostly the drone.
I can't think of many situations where you would spend a bunch of resources on a drone(they said you'd have to craft in) when you could just fly over yourself, which is one of my biggest reasons for this.
Consider also that we just got some climbing tools from aberration, and the new enforcer we saw can both climb and warp short distances.
The only flyers I could identify in the trailer were dimorphodons, the others at the Titan were unrecognizable to me(maybe owls)
So yea, I'm guessing a shoulder pet.
You're probably right. Still, I'll never get over this contempt WC seem to have for flying in general.
I think WC doesn't like flyers because they remove a bunch of the threats in the game.
Most land dinos are worthless if you're a few meters above them, so being able to just fly safely over everything throws off the game balance
I kinda understand it, really. But if they don't want flyers, they need to add another way to travel from place to place quickly without spending thousands of resources on a teleporter.
My problem with that is how easily it can be fixed. If the reason they don't want people to fly is because it removes threat of land dinos, then put threats in the air for us to deal with. It doesn't have to be other dinos, it could be mechanics relating to the birds themselves, or they could expand on the effects weather has on them.
I feel like this is just another example of how WC approaches these problems, such as the flyer nerf. Instead of tweaking something until it works, they go with the extreme options to smash the problem into pieces. I know not everyone likes flying, but for me it is an extremely enjoyable aspect of the game that doesn't need to take away gameplay elements.
For Aberration, I could understand not having flyers. For that specific map and what they were trying to emphasize in it, that made sense to me. But I'm not convinced that any of the other maps have a need for that sort of restriction.
Fixed.
Agree with just about all of this.
I'm sure there were other reasons for the nerf, but this was the biggest crying and whining I saw at the time. If the playerbase didn't abuse mechanics, and glitches tbh, then things like flyers getting the heavyhanded treatment wouldn't happen.
That won't occur though. In a competitive game there will always be someone to abuse everything they can, and some things they shouldn't. If one person does it, everyone will do it because "It's not fair if they are. We have to too so that the fights are even and balanced." It's the nature of the game.
That being said, I'd love a new flyer. Riding on an owl would be pretty freakin awesome. Not sure where it would fit in the various categories though. Maybe you could "see" through its eyes somehow for long distance scouting? Some sort of mutation or tech engram perhaps. Perhaps even to the point of controlling it somehow for a limited duration before it came back to you.
