I really want to like Extinction but........
Ok I know some will not share my view but I am genuinely looking for help here. Ive played the game but cant seem to find something that grabs me and keeps me interested when playing Extinction. Dont get me wrong it is fun for a bit but as a PVE type Im not really sold on it. Examples of where I am struggling:

1. Went to the sunken forrest, man what a dissappointment, very few spawns of anything so not much point going there.
2. Went to Desert, a bit more fun but small and no real spawn areas, just everything everywhere.
3. Went to tundra, again fun for a bit but small.
4. The City, ok now this one gets me. Its relatively easy to get going but the only real danger is the rolling defender things and the enraged Megabeavers......

Right so thats the biomes covered now for the base building potential, I found no real attractive opportunities in the City. Only 1 semi interesting one in the desert. No point in the forrest. Tundra had a couple of potentials. Wasteland 2 potentials but I dont fancy losing my base to a metal eating corrupted dino especially as metal is so hard to come by.

So as I said I really want to like it but the balance doesnt seem to be quite right, to me this defo seems like a PVP only map. I really am not hating or anything here as I do genuinely love the game even with all the bugs but pls ppls help me out here, give me reason to love this map as much as The Island or Aberration......

at least one of them worked on extinction, not sure about the rest.

I think you are just doing a lot of wrong things. my server has 4 tribes one has a base thats building in the forest, the fores is now spawning carnos, raptors etc due to the beaverpocalypse slowly dissipating.

another tribe building in desert, no issue there other than...there isn't an actual heat issue like there should be.

Nobody in snow biome...and again..not actually cold like it should be.

2 tribes in city, including my own both with quite large buildings, mine is like a 20x20 foundation base, the other tribe is starting to build in the coliseum looking structure.

metal hard to come by? the desert guys get it from the wasteland i'm told. and myself in the city, i fly about 30 seconds to the lower part with my argy and anky and i get 1.7k metal in about 2minutes. If i fly out of the city its a bit further but again..no shortage of metal.

maybe the problem is you are looking for that one perfect area thats completely flat and the size of an island. But there is no shortage of great spots for massive bases in or outside of city.

Bro i dont think WC could ever top The Island or Abberation to be honest.

I am sorry to inform you, while i also love this game i cannot provide you a reason the new map is better. I don't think it is, it's just "newer"

its actually much better than aberration. At first I was really disappointed because there no reason to build a raft, and i've always been the raft guy. But the map has a bit of everything and then some. Large amount of dinos, and the drops are more fun than just getting to them and getting your stuff.

Right that last point about the drops, while I found it different the first time out I found it reminded me of those RTS games that just spawn waves of stuff at you with no real thinking around it. At least with the spawn mechanic with other dinos around the map it is controlled, the spawns for the drops just feel too pre programmed and ilconveived.

drops can be edited in ini files per server to produce whatever you desire.

i've found it's best to edit those and balance them per community's needs/

well at least it forces you to fight stuff... i spent too many hours bored in aberration staying high with my rockdrake landing fast grabbing the drops on surface and climbing back up. Rarely had to fight much if anything, was just a grind for ascendant items with 0 challenge.

at least these drops give you a sense of urgency and a reason to fight for your loot.Aberration pretty much ended after I got my drake. After that it was just a breed fest and mat grind for shotgun shells to do the boss fight.

I like the "dinos" and tek it added to the game, but it's probably my least favorite map so far. Some parts look pretty, but there's not enough to do on it. Feels empty in most parts. Probably an attempt to keep the framerate up.

This has to be the hardest map all in all to tame everything. Spawns are scattered all over. Almost as if we NEED to build in multipul places.
Personally i cant see a real "good" playthrough unless u dominate all the bioms. Lets face it This is not the island! Moving dinos around traveling across the map with new tames?! Corrupt pteras making a mess.
I gwt the impression if u dont go all the way and take this map. Success would be difficult.

this map brings many new options. yesterday with my pre tame lvl 85argy(tamed with prime) lvld to 140 i soloed a blue drop , i wasted about 26 wood spikes and the drop had like 6k hp left on it, but i soloed it. among the many things, i got was 5 cryopods, that can be used to easily transport and move dinos. I have been prior cryopods to transport gachas from forest to city. I have owls for fast travel. if you have a good location in a PVE server you can use the balloon crates to move massive amounts of materials easily.

the grip of torment has a ton of rich metal, oil and silica nodes. located north of the city. ton of corrupted but dont fear the corrupt giga they are weak compared to their normal versions (have a good armored saddle) they can't gnash and their enrage does nothing except make them attack their allies.
Neonovica Nov 14, 2018 @ 9:45am
My base location is in the swamps of the city (not really sure if my tribe is planning on moving but).. Not very much wood, but we have our argen to fly us to the trees, the river stones give a decent amount of metal, and our dinos are pretty safe.

Another location I've seen players live in is that Abberation like cave. Never tried it out, but they lived up on a ledge and took owls and argens above (they lived near the entrance) to tame dinos. As for resources, there's plenty, and there are also gachas to poop them out as they wish.

Not really sure if this helps, I'm not really the best base finder, but I hope it at least helped one person :P
