The single player settings check makes the game a lot easier. Bosses easier, breeding faster.
I personally prefer full control over my single player campaign settings (ASM LAN server instead of single player mode, though to avoid long standing SP bugs).
Long standing SP bugs?
But for new players its a good place to start, so you can learn the game and see what game style and thus setting suit the time you can spend on the game.
Though as mentioned above, running a LAN server once your familiar with the game, is most likely a better choice.
Its a different matter when it comes to the Tek cave tho. Ive never done the Tek caves solo... so i cant say if its possible or not on 100% vanilla official.
Aberration has issues in single-player with crashing when going into new biomes. There also seems to be an overspawing issue with wyverns. (could just be my game.)
You can still have fun though. And, if you really feel like it, just cheat a few things in to play around. It's single-player, so you can do what you want. Build a massive base that would otherwise tax servers if you feel like it. There are no limits.
In The Island, I noticed that a lot of Cnidaria spawn in the air, above water, if I run the Single Player mode. As soon as I play on my server, no more spawns in the air.
I am fine with increasing rates to reduce grind on the solo player but I think increasing dmg out / reducing dmg in is all wrong in the SP mode considering you can solo clear all bosses on server settings with a bit of effort to mutate and farm saddles. Tek cave is a little tougher but also thanks to the tight corridors and chance of losing your team in lava.
That's my position on anything related to this game. Anything that reduces the grind (QoL mods / increased rates) is fine but I think the difficulty level is quite good and should be left alone which is why SP mode gets a big thumbs down from me.
But hey we live in the world of instant gratification lets clear all the achieves and move onto the next game so many will disagree.
