Switching between maps on non dedicated
So i want to transfer my lvl 91 character on the island to ragnarok. Do i just upload it inot an obelisk then go to ragnarok and download it onto there? If so does it destroy all the dinos that me and my friends have on the non dedicated? Do my friends jsut do the same thing too. Sorry for too much questions im fairly new and i just want to be sure im doing this correctly and i know whats gonna happen if I do. Thanks in advance :)

No.
You can even take up to twenty of your dinos with you if you want.

No one here minds people asking questions, ask more if you need.

So, a necro post because I've got similar questions.

So my wife and I are playing on a non-dedicated server, just the two of us.
As I understand, we should just be able to upload our characters (and dinos) at an obelisk and then switch to another map. Can we jump back to the first map at some point? Meaning, could we go to say Scorched Earth, learn some engrams and tame some things, then just go back to our Island map that we'd started on and still have everything there (bases and such)?

And is there a limit to how often or many times you can switch maps?

Correct.

Yes. Just upload at any obelisk from whatever map you moved to and download back onto your original map. All structures and dinos left behind will still be there.

No, you're free to move as you like.

Just make sure to backup your saves often when transfering between maps on non-dedicated/SP, as its prone to crashing when downloading things from a obelisk/drop or transmitter.

Back-up before uploading, and after having downloaded everything is usually the best way to go about it.

I've been looking for that info for a week xD but I still have some doubts, I haven't found any "step by step" guide, I mean I'm playing in a small group with my cousins in a non-dedicated server I host, I understand we can upload items, dinos and characters in obelisks and then download them in another server, but:

1- in the videos I saw that the player was inmediately required to look for another server to play in, so have we to create another non-dedicated server in another map with another character (which will be overwritten when transfering the character) before starting the tranfer?
2- and how about my cousins? should they start uploading before me? (because if I get out of the server they will too) but they won't enter another server until I start it...

We couldn't figure how to upload items. We could take ourselves and our dinos no problem, but not our stuff.

In the obelisk inventory there are 3 tabs: data, creatures & tribute, you put the items you want to transfer in "data", and they get uploaded, I don't remember whether you have to do anything else, there are a lot of videos explaining that, what I couldn't find is an explanation/guide step by step for my específic doubts, me and my cousins are playing in a non-dedicated server and need to know:
How to start another map in a non-dedicated server with the same characters being able to go back anytime?.
How did your wife and you do the transfer process to start in another map? could you use the same characters? did you have to create a new game in the new map and then transfer your characters? and how exactly did you do the transfers? I mean, did you do it at same time? did your wife start transfer first? I think that could answer my doubts, I'd be grateful if you told me step by step.

For dinos and us it was easy. We could select any dinos in the area of the obelisk. And us of course. When we uploaded ourselves, it took us back to the map setup menu. We basically just picked a new map (went to Scorched Earth) and picked a spawn point. We popped in with our stuff.

ok, but when you uploaded yourselves, how did you do it? because when the host despawns the other players are disconnected... so, your wife uploaded first, then you, then you picked map, and then she entered your session? or how does it work?
LordBlade Apr 18, 2020 @ 9:09pm
Yeah, my wife uploaded first, then me. Then I started the new map, and she joined in there.

What interests me: is this a way to change maps like changing maps on a cluster? or does it function just like in SP? The difference is: changing maps on a server-cluster doesn't need you to drop anything you have with you, including cryopds... The only exception are non-transferable items, like pure element and artifacts.

But if you change maps in SP, you have to drop EVERYTHING, to upload your character. You also don't just change a map, but first upload your character and then download it on the new map. (You change maps directly without uploading at a server-cluster.)

Or other question: is it possible to create a map cluster with a non-dedicated game? It is realy annoying, that you can't take anything with you in SP...

And yes, I'm re-necroing this thread, because this is what the search-function is for...

Non-dedicated is still single player with a friend, you can't cluster your maps. You quit the game and start a new game on a new map.

I feared about that... But thanks anyway.
