Surface crystal on ragnarok?
Unfortunately, the wiki resource map includes cave crystal, so it is not terribly helpful.
Any advice for crystal gathering near viking bay?

There is crystal scattered throughout. Eh, near Viking Bay......iirc there are several crystal nodes just East of Blue Obelisk, on the east side of the collaped stone bridge.

The ice caves on the mountain beside the jungle have a decent amount. It also has a lot of oil too. It has many entrances and even early game you can reach it with a good raptor or sabercat. Viking bay is below it and to the right. Just watch out for dire bears. They spawn heavily there.

It is a cave system, but with so many openings and being so near the surface I count it more as the surface. You can fly a wyvern through it. I just take my best anky with a argy with only weight and speed leveled and harvest all the oil and crystal that I can.

Try this map:

Doesn't show surface vs cave, but might still be a bit better.

On the Western side of Viking Bay, on the large rock arch, there's two nodes on there, and then over those mountains towards the forest area, there's a ridge with lots of crystal and metal nodes. And there's also the water tower; in the grand canyon, one of the small spires of rock has a small-diameter "pond" in the centre, which is relatively deep and has lots of crystal in it. And also where the snowy pond above Viking Bay, the mini-cave/tunnel there has a few crystal nodes.
