No and never will. Microsoft won't allow it.

No.

Steam= Closed Platform
PS4= Closed Platform
Xbox= Shares the Universal Windows Platform(UWP) with the Microsoft Store's Win10UWP version.

Nope, cross play has been added already, its for windows 10 and xbox, The steam version of the game is NOT the windows 10 version, the windows 10 version and steam are different games with different servers that cant interact.

There are 3 distinct groups that can play Ark....

Steam-Windows., Steam-Linux and Steam-Mac
The above 3 "can" play together on Steam only.

PS4 - only with other PS versions

Xbox - only with other Xbox versions. Note that the Microsoft "Windows 10" version (not Steam) is the Xbox version and so can play with Xbox.

I've started a petition on Change.org to address this issue. I'm tired of wanting to play a game with family and friends and being limited by something as simple as the version. I'm not paying to buy the same game twice. Please sign this petition if you would like to see this changed.

Missed two groups; Ark Moble - iOS & Android & Ark Switch. As far as I can tell, each has it's own server community and won't talk to the others. While adding new platforms brings new people to the game, the veterans will tend to stay where they are; to much invested on the servers they are on.

This fragmentation actually hurts the community more than it helps. For example, my nephew plays on an iPad. I play on Steam. We can't play on the same server. Not being able to play together increases the odds of getting bored and moving to something else.

Wildcard, great job in making this multi platform, but please stand up to the corporate stove pipe bullies; you will be rewarded with a larger customer and more loyal base in the end.

End Of Line...

I hadn't thought of them. Although ark mobile functions completely different and is more pay to win. I feel that adding the switch release would be a great idea though!

http://chng.it/BLJQD8N5hn use this link to join the petition. I just bought steam ark thinking I can play with my xbox friend; $35 down the drain.

What made you think that? Its pretty damn well common knowledge.

Ark UWP (Win10/xbox) and PS4 run the console version.
Then theres switch version.
Then the proper full PC version on steam.

All three are different versions of the game so cross play isnt possible.

Common Knowledge? Nope. Certainly not to my 12 year old kid who bought the retail box then asked if I could get it on the PC to play together. Only became apparent there was an issue when I started trying to work out why he couldn't connect to the server I'd set up on my new steam copy. There's certainly nothing printed on the box or advertised by Steam or M$ about the fact they are selling crippled versions that shut players into just their platforms. False advertising.

The vast majority of games, since the dawn of time have not allowed crossplay. As far as I know the games that support it are truly the minority.
Unless you are told/learn otherwise, the assumption should be that its not possible.

Given that the Steam page does not say it's possible... It's not false advertising.

if your kid is on the xbox then you also need to get a UWP copy. Refund steam and get that version.

You are correct.... there is nothing on the box by MICROSOFT to say that THEY do not cross play.... same with Sony.

Steam has nothing to do with it.

Why all the Microsoft hate? They've literally led the charge for cross-platform play. The decision is down to the devs, and if they don't want to put in the effort, that's not on anyone but them.

No.... they have completely said no to cross-play Ark with PC because they do not want mods on their platform.... that decision was down to Microsoft.
