Veteran to the Game, New to Online. Tips?
So, I've been playing this game since early access, except I've only ever played on my own, and sometimes with my sister, dad, and brother. Any tips on how to survive online?

You've had the best experience already imo. Online you'll just get trolled and harassed.

This is true. The best way to play ARK is with friends or family to be honest...

Stay off official servers. Typically, they are pretty toxic and difficult to progress very far. Look for an unofficial in server advertisement section of the steam discussions. There are 10k plus unofficial servers out there, you'll find something that suits your needs from vanilla settings to highly modded and high rates. I play on a great one clustered with 4 maps, medium settings, and decent mods.

yes the biggest tip i can give you if your thinking about going pvp online is quit your job, condition your body to about 3-4 hrs sleep a day and then you should be fine

Choose one of the 30,000+ unofficial server small communities that tend to be friendlier and more relaxed. You dont need to muddle through some of the experiences that the above folks are implying that are commonplace on the less than 1k official servers.

Don't get overly attached to anything. Don't get sentimental. Don't get emotional. If you do, you'll spend weeks building and taming and are at risk of falling down a time hole only to have someone destroy everything on a whim. This can lead to adverse psychological effects which I'd wish on nobody. If you're playing online, consider the experience separate from any singleplayer survival ambitions, and just go at it fast and loose. And try not to be a ♥♥♥♥ to others unless warranted.

Like many here are saying, try shopping around for an unofficial server you'll like. It may take a few tries, there are a LOT of them, so there will obviously be some trashy ones. But once you find a server you can enjoy, the game really opens up.

Just make sure you find out if they do periodic wipes or not, and how long the server has been running. Since these are hosted/paid for by players, it's their decision if they shut down the server or not, so try to find one that seems like it has longevity. Can usually trust those more.

Or go PvE... Official PvE is pretty nice. If you find one with space to build on and is not capped. Because you can build up to be a dino magnate that trade all kinds of sought after bloodline, sell boss runs, build a huge tek castle... etc
